Brushing baby's teeth

Should I be worried that 8 month old won't spit toothpaste out? He doesn't mind getting his first teeth brushed but mainly because he enjoys swallowing it

Please don't worry, I have the same issue with my 2 year old and nearly 6 year old!!

This is why toothpaste for babies and young children is a different formula and why you only use a tiny amount to start with.

I recently asked the dentist the same question for my 4yo. She said not to worry, just use a small amount of the correct toothpaste for his age. I think you have to swallow quite a lot of fluoride for it to have any ill effects.

You use a smear of toothpaste for that age precisely because they can't spit it out. I think it's when they are 3 that you use a pea sized blob
