For me it's the ladies Gymnastics.
I was a Gymnast at school and in the Gymnastic team ( against other schools) this was over 50 years ago ( gosh that sounds bad) it definitely wasn't anything like today.
Just floor ( no high tumbles etc) and then the horse.. no summersaults.
My gosh the young ladies are amazing.

No interest in Track & Field. Or Equestrianism, all the niche sports that only about three upper class, chinless toffs the world over actually participate in.

How incredibly rude. Hmm

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 30/07/2024 20:17

@Moier

Was about to say I enjoy gymnastics too.. Ladies or men. (Ladies are a bit more graceful I think.) Smile Ice skating/ice dancing too - though that is more winter Olympics

I enjoy athletics too. Smile.

Sailawaygirl · 30/07/2024 20:21

Rhythmic gymnastics! I love it when they call a ball ' the apparatuse' 😂. But also I find them soo graceful and skilled.

I really like the closing ceremony.
I don't watch it myself but I know that it heralds a return to quality TV, like Bargain Hunt, repeats of the Antique Roadshow and that one with Paul 'what's-is-name' traipsing about the country in ill-fitting clothes.

Ice Hockey.

No interest in Track & Field, Equestrianism, all the niche sports that only about three upper class, chinless toffs the world over actually participate in.

At least with the hockey most of the best players on the planet are there, and it isn't some mickey mouse U-23 nonsense like the football. Summer Olympics could die tomorrow and I wouldn't miss it one iota.

Well aren't you a delight 🙄

arethereanyleftatall · 30/07/2024 20:23

Swimming. Because I know how utterly phenomenal these guys are. I'm sure they all are, but swimming I know. You need to see a 'normal' swimmer in there with them to understand their immense speed.

user1494050295 · 30/07/2024 20:23

Rowing and water polo. Used to row (coached by former GB rower) and I play polo.

You mean you have no interest in the sports that GB are really good at and win us most of our medals? Equestrianism being a key one of those!

Kolom · 30/07/2024 20:27

boxing and judo, I want to like the street skating but it just didn’t spark much for me last time compared to x games etc

GrouchyKiwi · 30/07/2024 20:28

I love the rowing, gymnastics (the beam especially I find astounding), and then finding things I wouldn't normally watch.

I was enthralled by the women's team archery final the other day, which Korea won by a millimetre. So good.

I enjoy the swimming and track & field.

And a lot of the cycling is fascinating, especially weird ones like (I think it is anyway!) the kierin.

Is that the one where they all pedal round behind the guy on the moped who somehow never wins despite having an unfair advantage? 😄

Yes! They pootle along behind the motorbike for a bit and then do a wee race and then pootle around again. It's bonkers. Grin

I love watching the synchronised diving. When done well it is just mind blowing.

I also love the equestrian events and like a PP said, that men and women compete on a level playing field.

The beauty of the Olympics for me is watching sports I never normally would and cheering our competitors on. I watched the mountain biking yesterday and it was so exciting! Similarly the canoe slalom today.

Latenightreader · 30/07/2024 20:58

Another gymnastics fan here - I surprised myself how disappointed I was to miss out on tickets in 2012 so I decided to go to as many other competitions as I could. I've been to the British champtionships a few times, Euros a couple of times, the Commonwealth Games, and Worlds in Glasgow. It was in Liverpool acouple of years back put prices were 3x what I paid for Glasgow Worlds. Not at all bitter...

My favourite apparatus varies but I love high bar and uneven bars.

Ooh yes - I love the gymnastics and watch in total awe!

Swimming
Showjumping

Long distance running

birdsoeking · 31/07/2024 06:52

I can’t pick one really. Love it all. Love how you can start to watch something like shooting, then it’s 3 hours later, we’ve won a medal and you’re an arm chair expert. I really do enjoy it all. Loved watching the tennis yesterday and the swimming. I’ll enjoy athletics when that gets started too. The hockey is always good, rugby 7s really exciting, cycling too.

It’s a shame that in 3 weeks time it will all be forgotten and back to Bolton V Clacton in league 1 football rubbish.

AnnieMcFanny · 31/07/2024 06:55

Field and Track athletics, the decathlon, some of the swimming, dressage and showjumping.

As to why? I really can’t say. I just like them. But it could be something to do with being captain of the girls athletics team at school and having a granddaughter who does dressage and showjumping.

Also, some of my children and my
husband were competitive swimmers at school level and my husband may have competed
on the Olympics many many years ago in something that started out as a hobby sport but grew feet and legs till it took him to the Olympics. Not that I watch his sport as it’s really boring to watch - for me anyway. But I expect I’m not alone in that.

HappyToSmile · 31/07/2024 07:07

I genuinely enjoy it all!!! I don't understand the rules of fencing or the martial arts, but will still watch them!! Last night was just amazing, having my tv on the swimming relay and my phone on the tennis!!! The neighbours must think I'm a bit crazy with the cheering!!!

CeeJay81 · 31/07/2024 07:27

Gymnastics, Skateboarding, Climbing and Synchronised Diving. I enjoy a loads of stuff though. I've also watched Basketball, Handball and Fencing. I don't like Velodrome Cycling, Equestrian or Swimming.
Break dancing is new to it this year too, so I'm curious about that!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/07/2024 07:37

Triathlon. Women's happening now, men's to follow. The cobbles are proving very problematic for the bike ride!

IdontPracticeSanteria · 31/07/2024 07:48

Skateboarding and BMX for me

deeahgwitch · 31/07/2024 07:53

Diving. I just love how precise it is, especially when it's pairs. And how inviting the water looks.

I hate heights and have never even dared jump into a pool, let alone dive, so it's unfathomable to me that people can do it.

I'm with you on that.

Synchronised diving is awesome.
