Ideas for food 16 year old who can't eat due to new braces

IncessantNameChanger · 30/07/2024 18:16

He has top braces for a year but the bottom ones put in yesterday morning and hasn't been able to eat anything at all since.

He can't bite or chew at all right now

I'm.thinking ice cream, yohurt and soup. Anything else? He can't even eat instant noodles

Smoothies, custard. It’s savoury that’s hard isn’t it. I can only think of soups

Neurodiversitydoctor · 30/07/2024 18:19

Rissotto, sloppy macoroni cheese ?

FunLurker · 30/07/2024 18:19

My DS had top and bottom done together, took paracetamol and then used bonjela and ate a lot of cereal, and snack food for first couple of days

The pain will ease soon, just remember the results WILL be worth it.

Porridge
Rice pudding
Baby fruit puree.
Would he manage bread dunked in the soup to soften it.
Would he manage the meat bit of Spag bol.

My two teens and I went through this whole thing together. Shepherds/cottage pie was always favourite for tea after our appointments. Home made soup, yoghurt, egg mayonnaise sandwiches. Good luck.

Salmon and mash was manageable for my dc's

lavenderlou · 30/07/2024 18:22

I had braces a few years ago. I lived off mashed potato, soup and weetabix for the first few days.

IggyAce · 30/07/2024 18:25

Smoothie, soup, cottage pie, yogurt.

Meadowwild · 30/07/2024 18:25

protein shakes - full fat milk blended with a banana, a few drops of vanilla or a drop of caramel essence and a heaped spoonful of smooth peanut butter. could add a scoop of vanilla protein powder too.

dips - humous mixed with greek yoghurt, tahini, cumin, mild chilli
avocado blended with red pepper and greek yoghurt with a bit of garlic, lime and mild chilli

My DD had very soft jacket potatoes with loads of butter and cheese.

BeyondImagining · 30/07/2024 18:27

Fish Pie
Soup
Smoothies
Weetabix

3luckystars · 30/07/2024 18:27

jelly and chocolate buttons

AdaColeman · 30/07/2024 18:29

Porridge with plenty of milk.

Scrambled eggs, not over done.

Egg flip.

Baked egg custard, no pastry.

Mashed banana and cream.

Stir double cream into tomato soup etc to up the calories.

Cottage cheese.

Poached fish with mashed potatoes with cream & butter.

As he starts to eat, chop everything up and eat at the back. Nothing sticky such as mars bars.

Chop the noodles up into tiny pieces - or make a noodle soup with ditalini, chicken stock, peas and other tiny pieces of veg, plus seasonings/miso/chilli oil/spices.

ForeverAutumnCrow · 30/07/2024 18:37

My poor DD had three weeks of Heinz tomato soup and drinks. It’s all she could face.

LIZS · 30/07/2024 18:39

Pasta sauce with orzo pasta, Ramen, risotto?

Magpiecomplex · 30/07/2024 18:40

Fishcakes worked well here.

CrushingOnRubies · 30/07/2024 18:51

Scrambled egg, mash potato

IncessantNameChanger · 30/07/2024 22:01

Thanks for the ideas. He is already so thin but I guess most teens are. He has had a tin of soup and an avocado smoothy. He like the idea of cheesy mash but couldn't face it. We are on holiday which makes it worse.

Super noodles were my good of choice each time my braces were tightened. It is miserable - make sure he wears his retainer religiously afterwards… I didn’t and my teeth have moved

longdistanceclaraclara · 30/07/2024 22:12

Mash. Any sloppy rest meal.

Jellycats4life · 30/07/2024 22:13

Is he taking painkillers? Ibuprofen would be good, but not on an empty stomach
