Inspire me Mumsnet.
What did you all do for your 40th's?
I'm single with 2 adult children and an 8 year old.
Honestly can't decide between party/girls holiday/family holiday or cosmetic surgery 😂

I had a joint party with my best friend. It was nice but I could have lived without one,

My 50th was a weekend trip with 3 friends, much better in my view.

I stayed at home and had oysters and drinks. It was during COVID but I would not have done anything more exciting if it wasn’t. 😂

I’m 40 next year. Best friend, who turns 40 a few months after me, and I are planning on going on a Eurovision themed cruise while we leave our husbands home with the kids 😆

Of course this is of no use to you if you don’t love Eurovision like we do!

Edited to add details of this years event, which set us off down this road…

My future DH whisked me away gut a weekend at Le Manoir au Quatre Saison (or however it's spelt). Fabulous but £££ and very romantic for your situation.
I'd leave your 8 year old with the older kids and go on a girls holiday. My friend rented a luxury Airbnb with spa for three nights. There were nine of us so it came to £180 each (and we took turns cooking).
Of go with your bestie to Le Manoir!

I was seriously ill and had planned a little party and a city break later in the year but both had to be cancelled. In the end apart from a family gastropub lunch, and meeting friends individually that week I didn't do anything much. Just another adult birthday really. No big deal or fuss and I wasn't all that disappointed to be honest. I think I was relieved not to be the centre of attention and pretending it wasn't happening was the best bday gift to myself 😂

I had dinner out with about 15 (girl) friends. I had a house party, for about 30. And I was was taken to Venice by my then-fella. It was a big event for me as I’d left an abusive marriage about 2 years earlier and had spent a long time trying to rebuild my life. So I spoilt myself a bit 😁 Hope you have a fab time, whatever you do!

March might be cold and wet so I’d probably plan to stay mostly indoors. Near me, there’s a vineyard that does fairly cheap tours and the lady who does it is really witty. You aren’t hassled to buy wine either. Would something like that work?

I spent my 40th on a work trip with a friend - I expected it would be forgotten but my work friend took me out for a lunch at a little cafe and we had such a nice time.

Hope you enjoy it, however you celebrate
