Mumsnet seems to have quite a large London population I thought it couldn’t hurt to spread the word. I can’t even imagine how scared a 6 year old would be out alone all night.

Police launch urgent search for missing six-year-old girl in London

The girl was last seen on CCTV on Monday at about midday wearing light pink clothing.

Thank God I was so scared she had gone into the Thames

This is so sad. Poor child.

And how are people just coming and going without concern? Do children just regularly roam the green unmonitored ☹️.

I know everyone walks around afraid of everything now, but we can all call the police at least. Less time would've passed, and she'd have more chance of being safe.

Well on here I read all the time how children are out and it's normal. I don't know anyone who does this but seems common on here.

AvrielFinch · 30/07/2024 09:59

Brilliant that she has been found.
People do talk rubbish though on here. This is a normal estate. People calling it a no go area have probably never been there. I have never lived there, but have happily walked through.
It is really easy when you see a young child and adults close by, to assume the child is with them.

"I hundred percent would have approached her, in a very gentle way. I got lost at age 5 many, many years ago but I still remember it clearly. I was very frightened but had the nous to approach two old ladies sitting together."

You'd be very busy being "very gentle" on many housing estates then. She clearly wasn't frightened on that CCTV and it's likely that this was some kind of dispute judging by the reporting

PelicanPopcorn · 30/07/2024 10:01

Poor girl and family. That sounds so terrifying

AvrielFinch · 30/07/2024 10:01

Interesting people are saying it seems to be about some kind of dispute. Most child abductions are actually custody disputes, and the child is with a parent.

Savemydrink · 30/07/2024 10:03

She’s been found safe and well (-:

DysonSphere · 30/07/2024 10:03

Hooray! Fantastic🙂🥳

percypal · 30/07/2024 10:10

Glad she has been found.

Maybe in my post I should have said ‘certain’ areas instead of ‘rougher’ areas.

Well to be honest I’m never on a housing estate so it would be unlikely I’d ever have to weigh that decision up.

What a useful comment.

I was responding specifically to that poster and their response to me.

GoingDownLikeBHS · 30/07/2024 10:27

I was only coming on to say that saying Thamesmead isn't in Greenwich but never mind all that at least she's been found!

I lived there for about 12 years and it was pretty grim but that was before some parts became very desirable. The flat I had then (11th floor tower block) would now sell for £500k+

Anyway, thank god she's safe.

Midlifecareerchange · 30/07/2024 10:33

So glad she's been found!

Beth216 · 30/07/2024 10:41

Thank goodness she's been found. Seeing the video of her so close to the river was very worrying. The idea that her mum had some kind of seizure and Eudine just got her bag, left the house and happily wandered off down the street afterwards are just ludicrous though. I'm sure SS will be involved.

Never?

LiterallyOnFire · 30/07/2024 10:44

Never?

No she's wafting ever so gently around somewhere naice like Tunbridge Wells.

Iasonnas · 30/07/2024 10:47

My response to your very gentle wafting around which was completely irrelevant here? Ok

Grin Even Tunbridge Wells has housing estates I fear.

Odder that the girl was playing out alone, if there was a custody dispute.

I hope it's all sorted out quickly.

Maybe there is a custody dispute because one parent is being neglectful and the other parent does not want them to have unsupervised access?

willWillSmithsmith · 30/07/2024 11:24

ClaudiaWankleman · 30/07/2024 10:42

Never?

I was brought up on a sprawling council house estate so yes I’ve spent many years on one but there’s no situation now where I’d be on one, not through snobbery but through reasons, there’s no reason or purpose for me to be walking through an estate.

So the likelihood of me wondering if I should ask a lone child on one if they’re ok is not that likely.

LiterallyOnFire · 30/07/2024 11:27

Yes that would make sense. Although a parent with a strong case like that just taking her and then ignoring police contact attempts is an idiot. Some idiocy in there somewhere, any which way.

Well we will probably never know.

If you’re talking about me then I’m not lol. There is a small council estate nearish to me but it’s several roads behind my house, in the opposite direction of the train station and shops. There’s absolutely no reason why I’d go through it. It is near a primary school (which I don’t have any need for).
