... and have kids, where do you work? Baby number 2 has stolen my office room!

Why your office room and not DP's?

DrRiverSong · 29/07/2024 20:27

I have the office and H has the spare room with his office space in the corner.

mindutopia · 29/07/2024 20:38

Not much help, but Dh has a workshop in a barn and I have a dedicated home office. We both sometimes work from kitchen table.

Before we had such a big house though, I had a desk in the lounge for daytime and one in youngest dc’s bedroom for after nursery was done, if I needed some quiet. That would have worked for both of us if it had to.

Why your office room and not DP's?

He'll have the only remaining spare room to work from. He works full time from home, whereas I have the option to go into an office a couple of times a week, plus has way more calls than me.

I'm thinking our bedroom is the best option? Although not ideal.

Downstairs is all open plan and not huge.

No spare rooms... we work wherever there's space.

HangingOnJustAbout · 29/07/2024 20:43

Are you wfh when the kids are home? If not then a folding table and your office chair in any room that has the space, or go into the office.

I know people who work from their garage and their loft - both unconverted but quieter than the main house.

NowItsMeMyselfAndI · 29/07/2024 20:45

We have an Attached garage so we did a half garage conversion to create office space for dh.
I work at a small desk in the upstairs spare bedroom, I don’t have paperwork muc so I only need enough room for laptop and monitor and mouse.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 29/07/2024 20:46

We both work in the same room. We both wear headsets in calls like we would if we were in the office.

WouldUSayImWorthy · 29/07/2024 20:48

I work in the kitchen and DH in the living room, if we have a day we're both at home.

We do have a room with a desk in it, but neither of us like sitting in there for some reason!

Illpickthatup · 29/07/2024 20:50

I work at the dining table.

PermanentlyFullLaundryBasket · 29/07/2024 20:55

I am spoiled. I have a fully built in home office space with two desks in it. DH is still relegated to a spare bedroom upstairs. Our industries are too different for us to share a room.

coxesorangepippin · 29/07/2024 20:58

Dh has his office downstairs (open plan)

I have my office in the conservatory (upstairs)

ThePoshUns · 29/07/2024 20:59

Do you have a bay window in the house? I have a desk in the bay of my sitting room. I love it looking out into the street.

obsessedwithfreshbread · 29/07/2024 21:06

We have a dedicated office that we both use (separately) but in reality I only use it once a week/fortnight and DH has it the rest of the time, the other one will use the kitchen so we can keep an eye on the dog even though there is another desk in our bedroom.

DilemmaDelilah · 29/07/2024 21:12

Before DH retired and before we changed his dressing room (the box room) into my office, I worked in the spare room and he worked in the master bedroom.

I now have a lovely office of my own and he is my house husband 😁

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 29/07/2024 21:15

I used to have a desk in the corner of the living room, and dh used to have a desk in the corner of the bedroom.

We got a garden office big enough for both of us a couple of years ago.
