Does anyone sleep through from night till morning? Frustrated!

I just cannot get a good stretch of sleep (unless I've been drinking!) Last night, I must have woken up every half an hour. I've tried night time gummies, lavender spray on the pillow. I only have one cup of coffee a day (in the morning). Is there anything else I can try? I'm really trying to reduce alcohol intake, so trying not to resort to wine to make me sleepier (although that works like a charm when I do). Do lots of people sleep right through the night?

It depends on my hormones these days. I sometimes do. Sorting out my anaemia helped.
A friend found that getting anti-allergenic bedding worked for her. She has asthma.

Lovetheants · 29/07/2024 17:25

I'm not a great sleeper since peri menopause kicked in. Coupled with a husband that snores! However, I do really find foam earplugs help. They don't black out noise completely but dull it. So much so, that when husband is on nights, or I'm away alone with work, I find I sleep much better with them in.

I've also got emergency melatonin I brought back from the USA, but can't actually remember the last time I used it

Are you taking magnesium? How's your sleep hygiene?

A few months ago I stopped tea in the pm, stopped screens at 7, no screens after 8 (phone or tv) read before bed and voila! (It was difficult and didn’t last long however 😅)

ToddlerMumma · 29/07/2024 17:29

My sleep was rubbish for ages. I started HRT for peri menopause and now I sleep through, 7-8hrs a night. Worth a try, especially if you're experiencing other signs of peri menopause

Askingforadvice78 · 29/07/2024 17:30

Magnesium. 500g every other day or so. I swear by it.

UsernameTaken76 · 29/07/2024 17:33

Magnesium spray on your feet when you go to bed. I’ve found this plus my lavender pillow spray really so help me fall asleep and stay asleep.

Also check your mattress and pillow are they comfy and supportive? Is the bedroom cool especially at the moment.

Magnesium glycinate and CBD oil before bed. White noise (I like a fan). More aerobic exercise during the day

cranberrypi · 29/07/2024 17:35

I never have done, and it has never been an issue - I feel like I have missed out on the best bit of the night if I don't have awake time cosy and relaxed in bed

JoanOgden · 29/07/2024 17:35

How much exercise do you do? That always helps IMO

mondaytosunday · 29/07/2024 17:36

Not since before kids! Certainly not now - maybe once in a very rare while I'll get six hours in a row.
Needing the toilet is why I wake up. Oddly I can go much longer during the day without needing to go.

Hutnut · 29/07/2024 17:37

Exercise!

NecessaryNC24 · 29/07/2024 17:38

I'm actually the opposite. Alcohol stops me sleeping properly.

Without it it's so much better, proper deep sleep.

But you have to give it at least 10 days for your body to adjust.

hexsnidgett · 29/07/2024 17:40

Sleeping alone, cutting down on stress and earplugs means I now sleep mostly like a little log.

Do you snore or have sleep apnoea? Overnight urination can be a sign of sleep apnoea. I don’t remember why. Before my sleep apnoea was diagnosed and treated with a CPAP machine I’d wake up once or twice during the night needing to pee. Not a problem since I’ve used a CPAP when sleeping.

Libre2 · 29/07/2024 17:41

Well last night I slept like an absolute log as I had cleaned house from top to bottom and taken dog for 2 hours over the hills and then done 15 minutes bedtime yoga.

However, the main influencing factor was that my amazing and wonderful DH has taken the DC away camping and is dealing with all the diabetes crap with DS1 so I have no one to be responsible for. Apparently that helps you sleep…

But - do try yoga - even 10 minutes before bed.

DoingJustFine · 29/07/2024 17:43

I’m another one to recommend magnesium before bed.

Sethera · 29/07/2024 17:43

I've slept through from night till morning on one occasion in my whole life that I can remember, and that was 36 years ago when I was a teenager. I vividly remember my shock at waking and it being morning.

5831bob123 · 29/07/2024 18:19

Nope! I fall asleep fine but once disturbed by something ie. usually young children, that seems to me done for the night. Tried all sorts of remedies but never successful. Apparently I don't need sleep! But I'm permanently tired 😫

FloordrobeIsGoingToGetME · 29/07/2024 18:23

Rubbish sleep is awful, OP - you have my sympathy.

You mention wine. Alcohol actually disturbs sleep, OP, so even if you might sleep through, it's very poor quality.

Have tried having no alcohol for say, 30 days, and working on a good sleep routine?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/07/2024 18:25

I use Feather and Down sleep butter - it contains magnesium, lavender and camomile. I used to have awful insomnia, and my sleep is so much better now - I still have some bad nights, but the improvement is immense.

ScabbyHorse · 29/07/2024 19:44

Magnesium tablets before bed, lavender oil on pillow, blackout curtains and cotton pjs and sheets work for me

notatinydancer · 29/07/2024 19:46

Never have. I might get 5 hours if I take
magnesium.
I'm often awake on the hour every hour.

FeckOffNowLads · 29/07/2024 19:46

Oh yeah cut out the booze
take magnesium
Ear plugs !!

EveryOtherNameTaken · 29/07/2024 19:53

I'm the same OP. And my mouth dries out terribly too.

Going to take the magnesium advice!
