Fuck it - I'm taking a day off work. Wanna help me plan the day?

I'm taking a day off work.
I'm in one of those itchy, sorting-out moods. DP's away all day.
I can't so too much away from home because I can't leave the dog and an Amazon parcel is turning up at some point.

Here's what I have planned so far:
> Sort out all the bedlinen. Section off all the stuff that's going thin and bobbly. Order lovely new stuff.
> Sort out the "Life Box" of paperwork. Keep important papers. Shred 10-year old bills and similar.
> Bit of cutting back in the yard.
> Clean the yard with outside disinfectant.
> Have a look for some jeans and wide leg trousers. No need to buy today because just finding them can be stressful enough. But just see what's out there.
> Tea, biscuits, book

Any advances? Any other sorting out projects I could be doing?

Oh I did this on Friday. Very satisfying.

do you have any clothes with missing buttons, hems to go up, alterations needed that you can get round to sorting?

Xiaoxiong · 29/07/2024 08:50

DH took the kids away for a week a few weeks ago and while they were gone I managed to declutter all the winter coats, shoes, stuff that's too small for DCs, and I Kondo-ed my wardrobe as well which was fab. Highly recommend that as it means it's easier to put everything away, which means clear surfaces, which means easier to keep clean and less visual clutter as well.

I also tackled one kitchen drawer an evening to the accompaniment of Bridgerton.

Other things you could do today of life admin since it's a workday - book appointments. Haircuts, dentist, orthodontist, MOT, car service, any other appointments you've been meaning to get round to. Customer service stuff you've got hanging over your head like returning stuff to shops or sorting out a train delay refund.

Ooooh, yes, I have got a bag full of clothes that need buttons or a little repair. I'm pretty crap at sewing so might end up just taking them to the rag recycling anyway. But I can definitely tackle them.

And appointments are a great shout too. I'm actually pretty well organised but I could do with booking in eyebrows for August for sure.
And I might tackle my wardrobe. I want to get stuck into DP's but he's losing weight ATM so waiting until he's reached his goal before sorting his clothes. I'm itching to do it with him (why is weight loss so bloody slow!!).

What about - washing machine maintenance wash, proper clean of dishwasher, cleaning hoover filters, clean of tumble dryer filters?

magicstar1 · 29/07/2024 09:23

I’ve done the same. I’m cleaning the fridge, sorting out the three freezers we have (absolute madness), and getting a food shop in.

TonyTigerKindaSexy · 29/07/2024 10:37

Yes! Hoover filters is a great idea. I did a maintenance wash a couple of days ago so that's sorted.
No dishwasher or tumble dryer here.

The fridge could probably also do with a decent sort out and clean.

Currently in the middle of shredding old paperwork! Lovely stuff!

Oh I love a day like this. How's it going OP?

TonyTigerKindaSexy · 29/07/2024 17:26

Take one if you can @HermioneMedal It's wonderful!

It's going very well, thank you. Here's what I've done:
> Changed the beds
> Binned tatty old bed linen
> Ordered new bed linen (giving bamboo sheets a try because I'm adventurous)
> White wash done, line dried, put away
> Hoover filters cleaned (main hoover and robovac)
> "Life Box" sorted out and pared down to only essential paperwork, everything else shredded
> Updated details on the dog's microchip
> Booked eyebrow appointments for August and September
> Scraped all the candle wax remnants into one jar which I'll burn as wax melts
> Cleaned all the old candle jars and wrapped ready for charity shop
> Consolidated three separate charity shop bags into one and put it somewhere visible so I'll actually take it
> Wiped over the bathroom with Zoflora
> Watered every plant in the house
> Sorted out a drawer and found some old vintage trousers that S&B ladies tell me are now fashionable
> Tea, biscuits, book

I failed to look for jeans and trousers because I couldn't face it. And I didn't do anything in the yard because it's too bloody hot.

DP is home at 8pm so still got a few hours of productivity 😅

why do you need to clean the yard with disinfectant OP? who's going to eat off it? apart from defenceless animals

TonyTigerKindaSexy · 29/07/2024 18:03

@Riverswims 🤣 Hopefully no-ones going to eat off it. But my dog wees out there and in this weather it can build up to a bit of a fust 🤢
