When you do a food shop do you go down every aisle or just the aisles on your shopping list?

Just curious

Are you a get in get out - just look at what I need
Or
Leisurely scroll, will look at options, aisles you don’t need to go down (seasonal, beauty etc)

I tend to shop online but when I got to a physical shop I just head straight for the things I need and get out as quick as possible.

Prew · 28/07/2024 21:49

dont go in with a shopping list so go down all the food aisles when I do an in person shop, tend to also look at the kitchen section and clothes

MolkosTeenageAngst · 28/07/2024 21:50

Usually I’m in and out and literally just get the things I need from the aisles I need. Other times I will have a bit of a browse though, I definitely don’t go up and down every aisle but I might browse things like clothes/ toys/ home sections if a big supermarket and might go down a few aisles where I think they might have something tasty or interesting like world food or confectionary. I’m more likely to do this in a supermarket I don’t usually visit than my usual ones or if it’s Christmas or another time they might have updated their stock.

I go in with a list as I write everything down that I run out off when using and I also buy a xtra that’s not on my list 🤣🫣🤦🏻‍♀️ which could explain how I manage to spend almost £100 every time I go to Aldi/Lidl, my husband though will take my list when he goes and will only buy what’s on the list so he only spends £30/40 when he goes

Stressfordays · 28/07/2024 21:56

Depends on if I'm in a rush or not and occasionally my mood. I usually enjoy looking round supermarkets so if I can, I'll browse the aisles but if I'm not feeling being around humans or I'm short on time I'll be in and out ASAP!

OhMehGoddess · 28/07/2024 21:59

I have a list and go down each isle. I double back on the first isle to end up at the tills on the last isle.

Lesleyknopeswaffleiron · 28/07/2024 22:05

I do a big big shop once every few months and I like to do it in-person - leisurely stroll up and down the aisles, usually go to Sainsbury’s even though it’s more expensive but it’s a nicer experience. Costs me a fortune and I usually end up with random things I don’t need.

Rest of the time it’s an online shop, and supermarket/shop only for top-ups, in which case it’s in-and-out as fast as I can

JabbaTheBeachHut · 28/07/2024 22:07

I haven't shopped in a supermarket for about 6 years.

But when I shop online, I normally go with the same regular stuff.

If I fancy a treat or suddenly think of a different product I'd like to try, I just search it and add to basket.

NewName24 · 28/07/2024 23:19

Just pick up the things I need, from the places they are.

What would be the point in going down aisles with pet food when I have no pets; make up and beauty products when I don't use them; alcohol aisles when I don't need any; sweets and chocolate or biscuits if I don't need to get any ?

Mmhmmn · 28/07/2024 23:21

About 96% of the aisles 😁 🥱🫤😵‍💫

I hate shopping so I have a list. grab and go!

Floralnomad · 28/07/2024 23:26

I don’t do lists but I do consciously miss aisles if I know I won’t want anything

TyneTeas · 28/07/2024 23:27

Stick to the list. Stay off the seasonal aisles.

Tarquina · 28/07/2024 23:36

In and out ASAP. No browsing.

Shitandrun · 28/07/2024 23:41

Depends on my financial situation. I like a browse through the aisle of crap in Lidl and Aldi when I've got extra money. If I'm skint then it's eyes down, grab what I need and head for the tills.

Wishicouldlovemyself · 28/07/2024 23:42

Depends upon my mood and whether or not I have time to spare.
Generally though, I like to browse and will go up and down most aisles.
I'm also one of those who looks at the ingredients on most things I pick up...to decide which is best, and I also like to work out which item has the best price per kg.

This is now more of a habit than a necessity.

Karmaisac4t · 28/07/2024 23:43

Just the aisles for my shopping list as I’m on a fairly strict budget and have no will power for nice things so I have to keep my blinkers on

MavisPennies · 28/07/2024 23:45

I love going to the supermarket. Usually it's an online shop, but if I persuade someone to take me to a medium sized supermarket (not the massive ones) I'll fart about looking at all the products for ages.

HermioneMedal · 29/07/2024 15:26

Aldi- every aisle of course, especially the middle!

Tesco- definitely not, stick to list, in and out as quick as poss. However, OH simply loves to wander up and down every single aisle looking at every single thing. It drives me potty. Could be hours in there! So we don't go together.

Because it’s not about what you need.

And it’s putting stuff like deodorant, and browsing the different brands, whereas some people will just rebuy the same product and not look.

This felt like it took up too much energy to explain tbh. You sound rather boring tbh.

I plan my route to only go to the exact part of the aisle yo get the product I want.
Dh likes going up and down every aisle. I don't.
Sometimes I just browse the fresh produce aisles, the meat aisles, the bbq section to see if any new items or seasonal items I fancy.

That’s what I like to do. My local supermarket has changed everything around. It’s taken about two weeks as they are doing it gradually. When I have time I will do a full aisle stroll to see what’s what.
