Question about US VISA’s (not ESTA)

Hi All,

I’ve tried (unsuccessfully) to find the answer online but have come up with nothing so asking the very clever mumsnetters in case someone may know.

So, a few years ago we wanted to travel
to the US. My husband didn’t qualify for an ESTA (previous arrest and caution - for defending me against a bully) so we had to apply for a Visa for him. It involved applying for a police certificate and then a (very brief) interview at the US embassy and then he was given a 10 year visa.

so this is where my question is. His passport has now expired and so he has a new one (with no Visa sticker and it’s pretty close to the 10 years now anyway). Does anyone know if we have to go through the whole rigmarole of having to go for an interview at the US embassy or can he now just apply for an ESTA? He has not had any arrests since the one he declared.

thanks in advance

If his visa is still valid then he will just need to take both his current and his old passport with valid visa in.

And what happens when the previous visa runs out?
