Has anyone been to Annecy?

We're spending an evening and a day there in a couple of weeks. We've booked an air b n b but haven't got anything booked to do yet. Will we need to pre book activities such as paddleboarding or kayaking? Or will be ok to just leave it and see what we fancy once we're there?

Also any recommendations of things to do/see while we're there would be very welcome.

Thank you!

You only have one night and one day. If you REALLY want to do something, I would book. Otherwise your chance is gone. If you are not too bothered, I'd wait and see

Pedalo is very much the done thing, and there are lots of them so no need to pre book. You can swim off a pedalo, and some have shades and slides.

Also lots of motorboats to hire with electric motor so no license needed, and you can swim off those.

Kayaking not really done there.

Paddleboards are called long boards - not many hire places for those.

Cycling is brilliant - book ahead if you want electric, but if not electric no need to book.

There’s a free bus service that runs every 15 mins or so down both sides of the lake - very efficient and easy, but no one tells you about it and there are no flyers. Look for a bus with Gratuit on the side!

Boat trips are pricey and run at very fixed weird times so don’t bother with those.

We went in July a couple of years ago and were able to paddle board from a little beach close to the town centre but could only get two boards not three, so I would pre-book if it's important. We also hired electric scooters without booking. We also drove to a bigger beach about 20 mins down the western side of the lake which was fabulous for swimming and had a diving tower. Make sure you allow some time to just mooch round the old town, it is gorgeous both day and night time.
