Has anyone with "normal" blood results nevertheless benefited from HRT?

I'm getting loads of symptoms (hot at night, insomnia, anxiety, palpitations) which could be life stress but sort of feel hormonal. I'm just turning 45. However, blood tests show definitely premenopausal (fsh less than 5, all other hormones in "normal" range). I have a mirena coil so don't know where in my cycle, but I've had 2 blood tests in the space of 3 months and both similar. Is it worth going private and trying hrt? I feel pretty wretched.

TIA.

I started hrt when blood results were normal, still having regular periods but insomnia, night sweats, anxiety and brain fog. They gave me a low dose and it has helped ease a lot of the symptoms.
I didn't have to go private, just saw the menopause nurse at my gp practice and she prescribed them. I was a bit older though (50)

I didn’t have a blood test. My GP said that, unless I have one every few days over four weeks then it’s hard to know what’s going on. She prescribed HRT based on my self reported symptoms.

I think the trouble with blood tests is that the very nature of the perimenopause is that your hormones are all over the place (but on a declining trend). If you have symptoms (you do) and you want to, try HRT. No need to
go private (presume you are in the Uk).

Thank you all. I have another question about micronised progesterone, but reckon I should start another thread for that...

What have you got to lose? HRT protects against lots of health conditions and can ease the symptoms you are experiencing. You shouldn’t have to go private, just speak to your GP and ask for it

Footballwidow24 · 27/07/2024 16:19

I've never had a blood test for this either, described symptoms and HRT seemed the obvious suggestion.

Stopsnowing · 27/07/2024 16:20

Always been told that they should go on the symptoms

This. My GP prescribed Oestrogel based on my symptoms. Didn't need the accompanying progesterone tablet as I've got the mirena coil.

Peri menopause can't be diagnosed from blood test (or not the way the NHS does them anyway). NICE guidelines are to prescribed based on symptoms, I think (hopefully somebody more expert will be along shortly!)

Hormone levels vary throughout the day which is why blood tests are unreliable. I got HRT based on symptoms.
