I wfh. I finish at 5pm.

What time would you crack open a bottle?

I somehow feel that anything before 8pm is a bit too early.

5:01 😁

I came to say this. 👆

Although I don't like wine, so it's gin and tonic for me.

HowardTJMoon · 26/07/2024 19:49

Today I had a beer at about 7pm after finishing WFH at 5:30. Depending on how I feel sometimes it's a bit earlier, sometimes later, often not at all.

BobbyBiscuits · 26/07/2024 19:52

I don't work now. I actually tend to drink more in the daytime. Often I'll have a couple of glasses of wine at lunch, (which to me is about 3pm) then one before dinner at about 7 to try and whet my appetite.
I usually pour one to go with dinner but then don't finish it.
Everyone's different. If I were to start drinking at around 8pm I might feel the urge to 'binge'.
I tend to drink lots of water at dinner and after.
As long as it's not causing any issues then drink when you feel like it.

This. If I go out for breakfast I'll sometimes have a mimosa if there's one on the menu! As long as you don't have issues with alcohol then just have a drink when you fancy it.

3pm if it's a Friday

I have been known to have mulled wine instead of tea whilst wfh in the run up to Christmas

NashvilleQueen · 26/07/2024 20:03

I wfh and sometimes like to have a glass of wine about 6pm whilst I finish up emails. Everyone else has logged off so there are no disruptions. Bit of music on. Lovely

circular2478 · 26/07/2024 20:17

After 6ish, but usually I wait until 7pm unless it's a special occasion.

Turophilic · 26/07/2024 20:21

When the kids were little, as soon as I got downstairs after bedtime stories, so about 8pm.

When they were older, 6 pm glass of wine while cooking everyone’s dinner.

dbeuowlxb173939 · 26/07/2024 20:28

I don't drink every weekend but I think after 5.30 while cooking dinner is fine. I often have a g&t while cooking too (on the weekend)

MagicMagpie · 26/07/2024 20:30

I find a nice dry white goes well with my cornflakes.

OldTinHat · 26/07/2024 20:32

7am, after the alarm goes off?? *joking! (Maybe wait until 7.30am 😄)

Yep 😄
I finish at 3 on Fridays so sometimes it's 4:01 🥂

Then I fancy it.
We drink very little. The time wouldn't bother me.

Me too.
I think as long as you've finished work , what does it matter?
On a day off / non school night / anytime after noon - 12.00

pavillion1 · 26/07/2024 20:48

Oh when the sun is out all bets are off .

SauvignonBlanche · 26/07/2024 20:52

In my head it’s 18:00 midweek.

Any time after 12:00 at the weekend.

Ginkypig · 26/07/2024 20:54

Unless I’m on Holliday which means one or two around lunch time (but not getting day pissed!) I think dinner time is acceptable which for me is 6pm

if I didn’t eat dinner at 6 then I would still think 6 is ok.

i think it depends on how much and what responsibilities you have in the evening really. I wouldn’t want to have more than one if I had the kids around for example but I can say that because I’ve not got young children, so others may disagree with me!

also I very rarely drink on a weekday (a few times per year) so it’s not something I really need to put much thought into

KatiesMumWoof · 26/07/2024 20:56

Whatever time you fancy one. I'd happily have one while working in the afternoon. Baileys in a morning coffee, whatever.

i don't drink much these days, but I'll have one when I fancy one, time doesn't come into it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

"With" or "on"?

MagicMagpie · 26/07/2024 21:14

A full glass over them and another generous glass to accompany them. If having a boiled egg and soldiers, a full-bodied red is called for.

I'm surprised at the early drinkers!

I thought with this being Mumsnet, if children catch a glimpse of their parents drinking alcohol at any time other than a small Cava with Christmas dinner, they're going to become destitute alcoholics and drug addicts before they've even taken their GCSEs? 😱🤣

Sometimes I have a glass of wine in the garden on an early afternoon while the kids are in school. It's bliss. A hour to just sit and unwind surrounded by the carrots and Strawberries 😅

mitogoshi · 26/07/2024 21:20

Depends on how often you are drinking! Friday night it's fine straight away but not if you are drinking Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday!

IsaidIwouldBeStrong · 26/07/2024 21:22

It's always 8'o clock somewhere! Hope you enjoyed your wine op! Life is too short, enjoy! It depends when you're going to bed etc.

This sounds like bliss! I am imagining a thread about to drop: AIBU to judge a drunken mother on the school run wearing loungewear 😂. Cue uproar, and talk of social services.

DelilahBucket · 26/07/2024 21:27

Depends on the day I've had and what is happening in the evening. I don't like to drink late, so would more likely open a bottle while cooking dinner.

Donotgogentle · 26/07/2024 21:30

RosesAndHellebores · 26/07/2024 17:57

When the sun goes over the yard arm.

In reality I don't drink before 6pm even if we go out for lunch, except on Christmas day.

I think that’s about 10:30 am . . .
