I wfh. I finish at 5pm.

What time would you crack open a bottle?

I somehow feel that anything before 8pm is a bit too early.

In my wine drinking days: after kids' bedtime, so yes, 8ish

PeachSnake · 26/07/2024 18:07

Now is always a good time to start.

GuiltyForEver · 26/07/2024 18:11

Aperos 6pm wine for me Pineau for him. And I watch stupid medical dramas with them (just started ER again ). Crisps for everyone. Every single night. I may have 2 then stop because more than 2 glasses affects my sleep

I would say anytime!

OhBumBags · 26/07/2024 18:16

I'm surprised at the early drinkers!

I thought with this being Mumsnet, if children catch a glimpse of their parents drinking alcohol at any time other than a small Cava with Christmas dinner, they're going to become destitute alcoholics and drug addicts before they've even taken their GCSEs? 😱🤣

Mayhemmumma · 26/07/2024 18:17

5... I don't drink loads (used to) and only once a week, so as long as I'm not driving, once I've stopped working anytime is ok.

DoublePeonies · 26/07/2024 18:17

It's after 8pm here. Get that bottle open.

Pretty much any point after lunch time, when I'm not expected to work or drive is fair game, imo.

user98265374687 · 26/07/2024 18:17

6pm, but I like to be in bed with my book by 9pm…

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 26/07/2024 18:25

Well, if one has opened a second bottle the day before, you need to start early could go off...😱

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 26/07/2024 18:40

With your lunch ? Sitting in the pub waiting for lunch to be served ?

Aquamarine1029 · 26/07/2024 17:45

It's always 8pm somewhere.

See also “when the suns over the yardarrm”. Which I didn’t realise meant 11am!

SeeSeeRider · 26/07/2024 18:45

I always felt like the sun went over the yard-arm at about 6 pm, but my mother- and father-in-law seemed to think around 4 was OK after they retired. 5 pm is fine in my book.

TheNoonBell · 26/07/2024 18:58

We are expected to have a drink during our Friday lunchtime team call. Started during lockdown as it replaced pub lunch Fridays.

I always have my G&T with a slice of lemon but if it is busy I have just tonic and a slice.

CombatBarbie · 26/07/2024 18:59

Usually when I finish at 5....but if I'm not working and the sun is out..... Anything goes. (I work over 7 days so never really get a "weekend off")

bigbadbarry · 26/07/2024 19:00

I prefer to drink before dinner, so just after 5 is good for me but I probably would have stopped by 630

PuppyMonkey · 26/07/2024 19:00

The bar in my house always opens at 7pm… oh, look at the time! Wine

Highlandcathedral · 26/07/2024 19:19

Usually 6pm on a Friday but we cracked at 5.30 tonight. We don’t drink weeknights so it just arrived a bit earlier tonight.

violetcuriosity · 26/07/2024 19:24

5pm

CoffeandTiaMaria · 26/07/2024 19:32

I rarely drink but I fancied a glass of rosé after walking the dog so 5.50pm today. I will have another tomorrow 🍷

WhiskersPete · 26/07/2024 19:35

5.30pm seems to be our acceptable time bar special occasions.

RisingSunn · 26/07/2024 19:38

16:59

LindorDoubleChoc · 26/07/2024 19:40

5.30 to 6.00pm here. I only drink before dinner so 8pm or later is too late for wine for me.

CaribouCarafe · 26/07/2024 19:40

I think the amount and frequency is more important than the timing (so long as you've finished work/driving etc for the day!) - as long as you're not counting down the hours until it's wine time, and you can stop after a sensible number of glasses, then crack it open whenever you like!

Funkyslippers · 26/07/2024 19:43

Meadowwild · 26/07/2024 17:58

Usually 5.30 or 6pm here. But when DC were younger, I actually had just one small glass 125ml at 4.30 or 5. That was when I really wanted one. For the rest of the evening, I was happy to drink water, tea etc. But once DC were home from school, and if there were no other places we had to be later on, I liked to have one while they watched CCTV and I cooked their tea. It just unwound me before the onslaught of homework, bath, storytime, bed, prepping uniform, kit, food etc for next day - the whole slog of evening chores with small children, when you long to unwind.

God I wish I'd done that when my dds were little!

I don't tend to have more than 2 drinks of an evening so probably start around 6.30. I always have a camomile tea around 8.30 and that stops me wanting any more booze. I'm a bit of a lightweight these days but fully intend on making the most of the all inclusive cocktails on holiday next week!

BigFatLiar · 26/07/2024 19:44

After breakfast.

Well anytime really depending on the situation. A glass at lunchtime or on a nice day a cold glass sitting in the garden with a book.

I'd go along with it's not the time it's the quantity and frequency.
