Stool sample for bowel cancer screening. How long is it good for?

Not a very nice topic, sorry!
I took a stool sample today, to be sent off for bowel cancer screening. The instructions said to post it as soon as possible. However the next collection, displayed on the postbox, isn't until Monday. I could have sworn there'd be one this afternoon (Friday), but I was wrong. Obviously I sent it anyway, as it's not like I could take it home and redo it!
Will it be ok? Thanks.

Not sure. Just got my result back. All good.
Maybe a nurse/Doctor on here will be able to tell you. Mine was sent next day.

I wondered and called the lab, it should be posted same day. So I gathered my sample and found a postbox that picked up at 9am same day. Also it needs to arrive Mon to Friday too as the lab aren't there at the weekend. Yours might be different tho,b

First time I did one about twelve years ago, you did three or five on subsequent days before you sent it off.

So I don't think you need to worry.

Pretty sure it has to be the next day.

I don’t know but a friend did have to redo hers because of the postal strike.

Deathraystare · 26/07/2024 17:41

There is no Saturday collection???

Doggymummar · 26/07/2024 17:41

Well I'm a morning pooper, I guess if you do it in the evening then next day it is !

JMSA · 26/07/2024 17:42

Thanks everyone.
Darn it, sounds like it may be on the late side.
Well it's dated anyway, so hopefully they'll let me know if it isn't fresh enough Blush

Coukd you not find a postbox with more uplifts? The one in our local Morrisons has an uplift at 4.15pm whereas the one at the end of the street has only 1 uplift at 9am (although that does include a Saturday)

It's a different test now with a tiny spatula thing that goes into a small liquid filled test tube.

Too late now, although that is undoubtedly what I should have done. I had the dog with me too, which complicated things a bit.
