Please help! Washing machine trauma.

I think I've lost my credit card in my (almost new) washing machine and am panicking. I don't care about the card, but am really worried it might damage the machine.

Obviously I've checked around the drum and there's no noise or any obstruction. I've also checked for the card elsewhere in case it wasn't actually in my pocket.

It likely to cause damage? Is there anything I can do? I really don't want to call out an engineer if I can avoid it.

Please send advice and reassurance that I haven't broken my new machine! Thank you.

I washed and tumble dried my debit card yesterday in the pocket of some shorts. Machine fine. Debit card- not so much. It looked fine but no longer works so I have had to order a replacement.
If you did not proceed to the really dumb action of tumble dry your card may be ok - I am sure your machine will be fine.

I put my credit card through the wash and dryer once. It came out perfectly intact except that it had gone a bit wavy. Machine was fine, don’t think that could damage it, and it’s surely too big to get inside the filter or anything. If it did go through the wash it’ll probably turn up inside another item of clothing.

Check the filter. If it was in a pocket likely still there,

ScottBakula · 26/07/2024 14:41

Check the filter and the pipe from your drum to the outlet

TwiceAsLikely · 26/07/2024 14:43

I think if it didn't come back out then it was never in there. It's probably missing somewhere else.

I don't think it would get into the filter, I think it's much more likely you've lost it elsewhere.

Bjorkdidit · 26/07/2024 14:47

The only place I think things can get in a washing machine is in the rubber seal at the front. That's where I've found coins and other bits left in pockets. If it's bigger than a coin it's going to stay in the drum surely?

Could your card be in a jacket pocket, in the car, a bag or been left in the shop?

niadainud · 26/07/2024 15:05

Thanks everyone. I really don't see how it could have got into the workings of the machine, but the technical person at Bosch said it wasn't impossible.

It's too big to not be in the drum. You must've lost it elsewhere. It wouldn't break the machine either way. But I hope you've cancelled the card.
It's not in there is my view.

KatiesMumWoof · 26/07/2024 15:08

@niadainud

just put your card on hold & don't use your machine for a few days. Trace your movements & your card will show up.

it might not be 'impossible' to get into the workings, but it's exceedingly unlikely.

I once washed a security gate barrier key by accident, came out perfectly fine and the machine was not damaged. A credit card won't damage the machine.

I'm afriad that's now how money laundering works

niadainud · 26/07/2024 15:20

As I said, I really don't care about the card! (In fact it's an Art Fund card rather than a credit card, so doesn't actually need cancelling.)

Thank you for the reassurance. I hope everyone is right...

If it had done that, do you think I would hear it when rotating the drum?
