How much wedding memorabilia do you keep?

I've been having a clear out and have a 'keep sake' box which needs sorting. I've kept all of the cards we received on our wedding day but now, being really blunt, I don't see the point. They are dusty, take up space and I don't feel at all sentimental over them . (DH doesn't even know they exist.)
Married 40 years .

I think I thought everyone kept stuff like this mainly as my Mum does yet it's not really 'me'.

I have very little. I took photos of the cards and recycled them.

Linearforeignbody · 26/07/2024 14:53

I have my photos and that’s all. I donated my wedding dress to a charity shop.
Still married 😊

Bathymamouth · 26/07/2024 14:54

Very little - I see a wedding as the start of something - and living the something is the much more important bit!

Married 26 years
I had kept the dress, gave it to my DD to cut up as part of a zombie bride costume when she was 10
I kept one invitation, in a photo album, as they were so beautiful, otherwise it's just the photos now.

Chemenger · 26/07/2024 14:57

I had all our cards but threw them out last year. We got married 29 years ago. I didn’t feel anything for them, and looking forward I didn’t want them to be another thing that my DDs have to deal with when they put me in a home! Pretty much all we have now is the photo album and my dress (not sure why I’ve kept that tbh).

mumonthehill · 26/07/2024 15:03

I have my dress, shoes, veil all in a box. I also have an invitation and order of service and a couple of flowers i dried. We also have a number of wedding gifts still in a box, things like crystal glasses that I know we will never use but cannot get rid of 25 years later!

AnnaMagnani · 26/07/2024 15:04

I have the dress in a box in the spare room, the photo album gathering dust on a bookshelf.

The bits that are actually meaningful to me are the cake toppers I made but even they are stuck in a drawer.

Harrriet · 26/07/2024 15:10

Married 27 years. I still have my wedding dress, photos, menu and horseshoes. I weedled out the cards and only kept those that were from people I like. My mum had my bouquet dried and framed, tbh it looked liked squashed dead flowers and I've accidentally lost it😁

lawnseed · 26/07/2024 15:17

I have my dress, tiara and photos. I think there may be cards around, but haven't seen them for a long time. I'm not really sure what to do with my dress. I didn't get it cleaned after the wedding and there is a bit of mud here and there on the lower parts. I thought the tiara was pretty so I've kept it.

Linearforeignbody · 27/07/2024 15:44

We decided to use all the gifts, even the fancy crystal glasses. Most of them are gone now due to my clumsiness but as least they served a purpose rather than living in a box.

Fifthtimelucky · 27/07/2024 17:43

As well as photos, I still have my dress, veil and shoes, plus a couple of invitations and orders of service. I think I also have all our cards, but I'm not 100% sure.

The most ridiculous thing I have kept is the whole top layer of our wedding cake. I was going to use it as a Christening cake for my first child, but that was five years later and the icing was looking very yellow.

Given that she is now 27, it's probably time I threw it out!

PaminaMozart · 27/07/2024 17:46

Photos
Wedding notice
Dress (only so I can check periodically that it still fits...)

TootsyPants · 27/07/2024 17:55

Photos and my veil.

WouldUSayImWorthy · 27/07/2024 17:59

I'm not a 'stuff' person.

I don't even know where my wedding dress or album are, although I think they're around somewhere. Possibly.

EasterlyDirections · 27/07/2024 18:02

25 years. I think my dress is at my parents house but they say it isn't. It isn't at ours and I haven't deliberately got rid of it (it was cocktail style so doesn't take up much space and wasn't expensive). I didn't wear anything on my head. I still wear a pearl necklace my parents gave me for the day. No videos. So it's just photo albums and a scrap book I made with scraps of fabric (all the dresses were handmade), blank invitations, the receipts, table plan etc. Probably still have and use about half the presents. No cards.

Bbq1 · 27/07/2024 18:11

My dress

All our wedding cards

Have a completed wedding book
(like a New baby book)

A memory box with little memontoes like our cake topper

Our wedding photo album and 2 framed wedding photos on the wall.

We have just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary so I've owned all of this for a quarter of a century! I can't part with any of it but my ds probably won't want it when I'm gone. I am impossibly sentimental!

RosesAndHellebores · 27/07/2024 18:14

33 years.
I have kept the cards and the papers announcing the engagement and the marriage. An order of service and an invitation are in the wedding album.

My headdress was an Alice Band with silk roses attached. I used them to decorate dd's christening cake 26 years ago.

My wedding dress remains carefully packed away. The veil went missing on the day, I dyed the shoes and wore them as evening shoes for years. They must have been thrown away 25 years ago.

LoobyDoop2 · 27/07/2024 18:22

Dress, tiara, wrap and shoes. The shoes don’t really count as they aren’t particularly bridal and I still wear them.
We’ve got a photo book and a few framed around the house, and a box with a couple of invitations and order of service cards.
And I have a bag with all the confetti in it. I painstaking cut it out of tissue paper and an old book, and then on the day forgot to tell anyone it existed so it never got used, and I can’t bring myself to throw it out. Slightly foolish, especially when I tipped it all over the floor and then picked it all up again and put it back in the bag instead of hoovering it. But in my defence, I spent hours making it and it’s really pretty.

curiouslycoy · 27/07/2024 18:23

8 years and have dress (veil I think), shoes, cards, invitation, order of service. Never got photo album as I knew it would sit dormant. I am more than ready to get rid of the lot but I don't know if I will bother until we move, or need the space. I wore the shoes again recently and they're so uncomfortable. No daughter, so unless I christen my sons in some kind of outfit using it I can donate or sell it.

Inextremis · 27/07/2024 18:25

22 years, and I kept the husband, but don't think I have anything else!

Threeweeksold · 27/07/2024 18:26

The thin that lasted the longest of the presents we got were the stainless steel large kitchen spoons, fish slice etc from M and S. they are still going strong after 28 years.

I kept my dress, veil, tiara, cards, a couple of favours, my blue trainers that I wore. I should have a clear out really. They’re all in the loft.

gingercat02 · 27/07/2024 18:26

I think we have used all the gifts, some have died and been replaced (22 years)
My dress and veil are in the loft, as are the cards, photo album in the study, with dvds of photo from friends.
We have moved twice since we got married, and I don't think I have anything else squirrelled away.

BlueEyedLeucy · 27/07/2024 18:32

Interesting to see what people keep - we’ve only been married 4 days so looking at what keepsakes to have. My intention is to keep our hand fasting cord, button holes and some flowers - and frame them. We had dried flowers anyway so ready to do whatever we want with them. I’ll keep my dress but it’s not a wedding dress really and I intend to wear it again!

mitogoshi · 27/07/2024 18:40

Very little, my mum though kept lots including my cards and then threw them away when I got divorced

Minikievs · 27/07/2024 18:58

I didn't even keep the groom Grin
My dress and my wedding album are in my mums loft. Along with my shoes and tiara (I think)
