Any experience with V high lipase levels?

I posted this on general health but no replies so thought I'd see if anyone here has any experience.

A friend of mine lives in a European country (she's British late 50's) and has just had her annual bloods / health check results.

The year prior all was good apart from slightly high cholesterol so she expected more of the same, but the doctor was quite concerned and asked her if she felt ok / had she been having stomach aches?

Her lipase levels were in the 900's and the safe range is 23-300 😬

He then asked does she drink vodka / spirits (she doesn't) or eat a lot of carbs (she doesn't).

They've scheduled a pancreas scan for the end of August so we are thinking they don't think there is anything too sinister but they've said under no circumstances drink any alcohol and to avoid carbs.

She exercises quite a bit and is probably slightly overweight but mainly tummy area. She eats pretty healthily but does drink quite a bit of wine. Could half a bottle to a bottle of wine a day cause this? It's the only thing she can think of lifestyle factor wise.

Also she's drank that amount for years and last year her results were fine?

Could the blood result be a one off spike or does it take ages to build up?

Obviously she should have asked a lot more questions there but the shock and language barrier meant she didn't so now is blind until the scan 😬

Has anyone had any experience of this and what were the causes / outcomes? We are going down a Google rabbit hole!
