Banning YouTube has been the best parenting decision I’ve made recently.

Dd only had kids YouTube but even with the approved channels I allowed her to watch for an hour max a day her behaviour has been so so so much better since I completely banned it.

It was rough for the first few days where she was having meltdowns about it. I just repeated sorry darling, but no YouTube. And it’s been 2 months now and she only speaks about it wistfully - “oh mum remember when you used to let me watch YouTube?”

Honestly if you’re on the fence it’s so so so worth it!! Dd has prime, Netflix and Disney plus and honestly whilst she’s in the house YouTube will never go back on. Best thing I’ve ever done.

Many other ways to watch you tube videos without actually watching you tube!

Roblox is awesome.

My kids behaviour has never changed because of youtube. I mean how much are your kids changing?

Mines go through periods when they watch everyday and then stop for months at a time. And they are always just the same person.

I hate all this high horse bullshit tbh. Kids like gaming and YouTube. Alert the fucking papers.

Social exclusion will hurt them more FYI.

There is no social exclusion, they’re 8. They don’t sit about gossiping about Roblox, they play and make up games every play date.

Obviously as she gets older I’ll look at it again. But I’m not being superior, Dd still have screen time, still plays games, I’m saying that I as a parent fucked up letting her watch YouTube and it’s been brilliant for me personally to not have it in the house anymore.

If other children aren’t affected by it then no need to worry is there!

I banned mine from it when she was little (4/5?) because when it was time to come off she'd really kick off and kick off (plus the amount of rubbish on there anyway). And it's just been banned since. But there's so many other things to watch that it's never been a problem since

They probably do at school.
I know my DS and his friends talk about it and arrange to play online together occasionally.

Not all YouTube is bad. My SEN child has very limited and fixated interests. For 15 mins today he got caught up with a Dr Binocs episode on black holes. He watched it over and over. He asked me to watch it with him. Now he knows a few facts about them and can repeat them word for word. Later he was counting in twos, threes, 10s and 100s. It's amazing how the format makes it very easy for them to pick up stuff. Whereas he won't open a book with me and he's made absolutely no progress in school in the last year.
