what happens to the teeth that are extracted? I had an extraction today, so it's got me wondering!

I'm not a dentist but I asked my dentist this after he asked if I wanted to keep my beautifully deformed wisdom tooth.

They're incinerated, treated the same way as an amputated limb or excised cyst or something would be. Off-site obvs, the dentists seal them in bio-waste bags to be collected and incinerated.

sharps bin or amalgam waste bin - but like just appropriate clinical disposal - we aren’t allowed to do anything else with them (and nor would we want to - most of us are sick of the sight of the things!)

thanks, good to know. Mine was also a wisdom tooth. i'm now feeling sorry for myself!

You mean you didnt ask for it back?!

postitnot · 25/07/2024 20:31

You could have asked to take it home for the tooth fairy!

SparrowNest15 · 25/07/2024 20:57

As far as I know the dentist gets monthly visits from the tooth fairy to pick them up
in bulk .
