How long is normal to reply to a job candidate?

I’m on the hunt for a new job. I’m not desperate to move but a promotion type job has come up in a fairly newly started company.

The job advert expressly stated to email X person within the company if you had any questions about the role. I emailed a question nearly a month ago and still haven’t received a reply.

Despite this, I decided to go ahead and apply anyway because the closing date was rapidly approaching. The closing date was nearly two weeks ago and I still haven’t heard anything. I sent a follow up email yesterday and haven’t received a reply.

should I just assume that I won’t hear anything now or is this standard timescales?

I’d be really interested in the views of other people! Thanks in advance.

I'd say the question that wasn't answered was probably just overlooked. The application you would expect some sort of acknowledgement at least so that is odd. Personally I'd not chase it. The recruitment process is generally very slow. I work for a FTSE100 company and our hiring process is awful. There can be 100s of applications that need to be screened for fit then the hiring managers have to review CVs, and they all have day jobs. Even when interviewing starts people who don't make it for interview aren't always rejected until the positron is filled and accepted. Our apprentice schemes closed 2 months ago and people are still bring sent 'you are still being considered' emails even though they likely aren't really.

It seems pretty normal these days to be ghosted and never hear anything. Good luck with your search for a new role.

Inbox, junk box, spam box... I hear you! Been applying for roles since September on and off and I've finally got interviews coming through. Hurrah. Hang on in there.
