Do you have one eye significantly worse than the other?

My right eye has always been worse - my prescription is -4 and - 5.5
For no particular reason I covered my good eye while reading on the sofa and Jesus what a difference. I couldn't skim read as I usually do, I had to physically read every single word and, consequently, it took longer to comprehend what I was reading. It was hard going!
Is there anything I can do to remedy this? I have a real fear of losing my sight as I get older 😢

On my right eye it has always been blurry. On my glasses there is just a plain x 2 balance lense no prescription. I have never noticed at all as the left eye has compensated for the right all my life even before I needed glasses. I do have to be careful with my good eye.

I hate those field tests they do in the opticians as I always fail them and have to retake it.
This is me the problem with my bad eye is if I stare for too long it almost feels like my sight is going black and can't see anything.

Mine are -7.0 and -9.5. I have to wear contacts as glasses are so thick at the edges that I find the distortion at the periphery impossible for safe driving. Plus now I’m in my 50s I need reading glasses over my lenses!
