What would you do if you realised your chiropractor thought you fancied them?!

Hope the thread title makes sense!

Obviously this is not the most pressing thread on MN but I'm not sure what to do.

I've had a bad back since someone drove into my car about 5 months ago. I've been seeing a chiropractor to help realign everything and reduce pain while healing etc.

I've found a really good one, it was the second one I'd tried and he was much better than the first, let's call him Donald. I live in a big village and there aren't many chiropractors about, to add some context.

The last few times I've been Donald has been making it very obvious that he wants to tell me he is happily married, happy family etc. The last time I went, there was a family photo on the table next to the chair I sit on to wait for my appointment. Take my word for it I've realised he thinks I fancy him! Other hints too which would be too outing.

On the one hand it's amusing sort of but on the other I'm a bit annoyed about it because I really don't fancy him - I've always gone for scruffy intellectual types! - and it has made me feel uncomfortable.

Considering spending x amount each time is not cheap and now I'm starting to find it a bit stressful and he is reading into my reactions to conversations and my natural friendliness, I'm considering driving around 40 minutes each way to see another chiropractor- am in Scotland in the middle of nowhere.

What would you do? Carry on going to see Donald and sort of grey rocking him or finding another one altogether?

I think I had similar with a physio and the physio actually told me he thought he shouldn’t see me anymore and sent me to a female physio in his practice. He never actually said he thought I fancied him (i didn’t) but I always worried that’s why he didn’t want to see me anymore. And I was annoyed as I’d gone to him because of his reputation and the second one wasn’t as good. Maybe he was just busy and couldn’t be arsed with me 🤷‍♀️. I used to friendly chat to him about a mutual hobby (and he seemed to chat to me about it as much as I chatted to him). Was all a bit weird.

Are you sure you’re not reading into this too much? I’d just make it clear that you are not interested in him. Talk about your family/partner/husband etc. Maybe he fancies you so is putting up a weird barrier by talking more about his wife and kids. If he’s a good chiropractor I wouldn’t be messing around trying to find a new one.

Some men do this a lot and it’s not always to confirm they are unavailable, sometimes quite the opposite and they are laying out their stall so you know you’d only ever be a side chick.

It’s a bit late to say this to Donald, but should a man weirdly tell you he’s married in the future say, “Well good for you” with that hint of surprise and slight disbelief that should leave him in no doubt that you’re not interested.

I think it's more likely he's been in trouble before for flirting with other women and his wife is keeping an eye on him

Thanks guys. I changed my op a bit so this thread wasn't too outing but I've been going to the chiro longer than five months. In that time I would say we've chatted quite a bit and the chat has always been led by him, I'd be happy to just get the treatment done in silence. I have never read anything in to anything as I said he's not actually my type anyway but I am also married! So nothing of that nature from my side.

His leading the chat I've only ever taken to him being friendly and I have chatted back. He always talks about my back quite a bit as well.

That's why I know he is hinting heavily he is married with the photo etc and some of the things he said last time because it was out of character to how he had been before.

My issue really is if I was to go back either just to be really quiet and shut conversations down with him or to find another one altogether. I'm still thinking about it tbh. Also those who have said he might have a small crush on me if that is the case that is another big reason not to go back as that makes me feel uncomfortable as well.

What exactly did he say? My guess would be he has got himself in to a situation - either flirting or cheating with a client and his wife has insisted he makes it crystal clear he is a married man. You've just got caught in the cross fire

I'm starting to wonder whether this is it! Thanks for posting @Umidontknow tbh this is sort of the only explanation that actually makes sense to me!!

Although I still don't appreciate being made to feel as though I flirted with the chiro!!

Ask him about the family in the photo make sure you're talking naturally though.

Balloonhearts · 05/08/2024 20:21

Find a way to drop into conversation that you're gay.

MadamoiselleCocoa · 05/08/2024 20:35

I cancelled my appointment with the chiro on Friday! Taking a break.
