Migrating to UC with savings

I have received my UC migration letter to switch by 2nd August.

Yesterday completely out of the blue my ex partner transferred me £15k as a final payment (youngest Turning 18) for me bringing up our children as he moved abroad many years ago.

I had no idea he was doing this. Now im worried I will be penalised for this money when I move to UC.

i am in the process of filling everything on online for UC and just have the bank accounts and savings to do.

I was going to gift my girls some money.

does anyone have any advice please?

thanks in advance

If you are transitioning from a legacy benefit and move over within a month of the deadline, you'll get transitional protection for the first 12 months which means the savings limit won't apply.

The savings limit won't apply for a year but you will have deductions for the amount between 6k and 16k.

You may have to show where the money has been spent if you the drop under the amount allowed.
