My neck feels bruised after massage

I went for a body massage yesterday. The massage therapist did something to the back of my neck. She pinched it but it felt harsh.

The top of my neck, the base of my skull feels bruised now.

I never had a massage like that before. Is that common during a massage?

Don't think you're meant to end up feeling bruised!

Was it a sports massage?!

No it wasn't a sports massage. It was a regular body massage.

That's what I was thinking and that's why I asked her. It's the top of my neck, base of skull. It's not very painful. Feels bruised.

From a sports massage delivered by a professional like a physiotherapist, yes, this is normal. From a run of the mill, type of massage you'd get at a spa day, then no.
