Staying at a hotel and construction has just started at 12.30am

I'm in Dublin.

I thought great, the pub noise has quietened down, now I can sleep.

Directly outside there's drills, hammering, men yelling, the works. I have earplugs but can still hear the background noise...how can it be legal?

No way?! Are you certain that's what is and that it's not an emergency (such as a gas leak)?

CallyT · 24/07/2024 00:44

Yes, certain.

And now looking at reviews from previous months from June a couple that have 2/5 stars say the construction went on all night and they didn't sleep.

I could weep as I had such a long travel day and needed to sleep.

Is it road works? They sometimes take place at night.

I booked the room in May before construction started in June (so no bad reviews then).

Disaster.

I don't know @AinmEile maybe

Either way the hotel must know this is an awful service. You are quite literally not getting the sleep you require which is what I paid for.

Phone reception and complain at least.

Hope you are getting some sleep now OP. If you’re there for more than one night, ask reception in the morning if they can swap you to the opposite side of the hotel (if the layout allows for this). They shouldn’t be selling rooms on the side of the roadworks, from an ethical point of view. I know it’s not that easy on a practical note…

It's more than likely the council. They generally do work after hours. I would ring reception though and try to change rooms.
