Hoping to find out if supermarket cash back shows in same way as grocery shopping on bank statement

I don't want to out myself, and I am not trying to do anything dodgy but I am in a situation where I need to get some cash without it showing as a cash withdrawal on my bank statement.

I was wondering if any supermarkets still do cash back at the tills, and if so if anyone can help me work out if the entry on my bank statement would give away the fact that I'd obtained cash- or might it look the same as if I bought only groceries?

Hope that makes sense!

Also, if anyone knows of any other ways to obtain cash but where it looks like a regular transaction on my statement e.g groceries, petrol, pet food that would help me.

Also, does anyone know of the entry on a bank statement shows the location of the supermarket? Eg if I shopped in Tesco in Newcastle, would the entry on the statement somehow have a code for the store location. I know this is the case for online Tesco shopping, but unsure about in person shopping.

Pretty sure that if you get cash back it just is part of your grocery shop transaction

RubyGemStone · 23/07/2024 22:15

Just gets added to your bill e.g

Food Shop £104.72
Cashback £40

Bank statement reads Card payment to Sainsburys £144.72 it doesn't show any differentiation as its all one transaction.

I recently had to take £5 cash back from my local Sainsbug's

I bought a couple of £1 items and the £5 was added

The card had to go into the machine and I had to put in my PIN

The bank statement simply reads that I spent £7 at Sainsbug's

It shows up as Sainsbury's [My Home Town]

Got £50 cash back from marks and Spencer's today, just checked my account - doesn't say anything cash back

DontBiteTheCat · 23/07/2024 22:24

Are you safe OP?

IAmTheSockThief · 23/07/2024 22:24

Is everything ok OP? Like others said, it won't show as separate transactions but will likely give location, all of mine do.

ViaRia01 · 23/07/2024 22:27

Hope you’re ok OP.

Just wanted to add that last week I found out that I could only get £50 Cashback at Sainsbury’s so if you need more than that you may need to go several days/ several places

Thank you all for responding, I'm really grateful.

I've been in a tricky situation but taken steps to improve it, and have support IRL and a plan.

I need somehow to sort some cash without it being obvious and I think cash back alongside grocery shopping will work.

Thanks again.
