Such as, Admin or HR ?

I've recently accepted a Job in a School, due to start in early September.

Currently waiting for DBS clearance and reference checks.

Am I likely to hear from the Employers over the next 6 Weeks?

Feeling a little anxious to hand my notice into my current job but need to give them a Months notice!

I'm school admin and literally emailed a new employee today about dbs.....

Have you had your job offer letter? And did you accept it? If so don't panic. You will be expected to start in Sep.

Admin might do a day or two but other than that it's usually the cleaners doing a deep clean.

@Mumdiva99 Yes I've had my Offer letter and yes I accepted it. Other than waiting for DBS and references (very confident both will be fine) I'm not sure what I do next 😅

In my school HR and Finance staff are working a few days through the holidays. I would email asking for offer letter and contract to be sent so that you can put your notice in. We try to start the DBS process before the end of term date but it may be delayed if you only got the job days before Friday 19th July.

@laundryelf Thank you, I have the job offer letter and have asked for a contract. Guess I'm nervous until I've signed something! Although I've completed all the other million forms they requested, no contract recieved yet Smile

I work in school HR. We will not be in over holidays. I had to chase a new staff member about dbs today, so it can tick along over the holidays. You do get the odd one that can get stuck at local police force stage.
If I'm feeling generous in spirit I might login from home late August to check their dbs is progressing.
We have two inset days when we go back and they can attend those even without dbs being back. There is also the option to bring in staff on their previous dbs(if it's not too old) until the new one comes through. But this depends on the Head.
I would email the HR person you've been dealing with a few days before you're due to start to check all is in order. They might respond.

@Notstrongandstable Thanks so much, I've been in regular contact with the HR / Office lady (who is lovely) and all is going smoothly so far - I'm probably just being a little inpatient / anxious as never worked in a School before! I'm conscious I need to hand my current notice in whilst nobody is contactable at the School to check all is ok!

I work in a MAT and our centralised HR work all year. The school admins sometimes work term time+2 weeks. If it's something time-sensitive and can be done from home admin staff will generally do it for the love or take the hours back elsewhere.

Quitelikeacatslife · 23/07/2024 17:34

Not the office staff but probably the business manager will work a couple of weeks . They'll want everything in place for you to start but dbs can take ages and you won't be able to start until that's through. I would assume it is happening but you will likely not get contract until September.

It's always a bit fraught getting those last minute things for new starters done. I'd expect them to at least be keeping in touch with you. My HR colleague will be in school for a few days before the start of the new term for this reason.

That said you'll have to resign before the DBS comes through, sometimes they take months (sometimes only a few days), but they can start you without one, they just need to do a risk assessment if they're still waiting.

You just wait until until the DBS comes back. It can take a good 6 weeks if it's your first
