A very good looking man has sent me a friend request on FB

I don't know who he is, he only has 2 friends, so I assume it's all fake. Obviously the picture isn't real, but is it likely to be a real person behind the account or a bot?

What's the scam? What are they hoping to get from me?

Had loads of them scam requests , there always americans working overseas in the forces but they dont sound american, their widows and have children am not sure how to but i know theres an page where you can reverse goggles picture and see the real image and who its stole off.

These scammers used to be all over the Fitbit community - which no longer exists

The best reverse scam I've ever read actually managed to make the scammer take a trip to another African country to meet up 😁 High art.

That's exactly the same as the one I started chatting to. I was all set to see how outlandish I could make my life but once he'd got my (fake) photo it's was just declarations of undying love. I expected better of a very important military surgeon.

I was hoping it would be entertaining enough to keep up the pretence to see what he was going to hit me for financially but I got bored and blocked him

There's an American guy on Tiktok called Chad Huber (or something similar). He winds these people up and his videos are quite hilarious. 'Catfishing the Catfisher'.

Duncan James from Blue sent me a friend request on FB. He was my huge teenage crush. I was gutted when I realised this ‘Duncan James’ only had 2 other friends. My heart shattered into a thousand pieces 🤣

The other thing they might do (although perhaps they save this trick for young people) is persuade you to send intimate photos/nudes, then blackmail you with the threat of releasing your pics to all your contacts unless you pay them.

I get one of these every so often on FB - actually I got one a couple of days ago - he is very v handsome and was wearing doctor scrubs (those green ones)
I showed my DD (teen) and said I bet he hasn't got many friends and sure enough he had 6 - all middle aged women (like me!)

Yes - a scam, as others have said I guess at some point he would be asking for money!

I once got a random message from what looked like a cute guy, claiming to be ex-military and in the US aviation industry. There’s nothing visible on my FB profile that gives any hint of my job, so I messaged back thinking we potentially had a mutual friend as I’ve worked with quite a few USAF guys over the years. Very quickly became clear that whoever was on the other end knew absolutely nothing about aviation and only slightly more about the English language!

Never had another one since… 😂

There sure seems to be an lot of handsome widowers in the US Military just looking for friends from random women on FB. Funny, since I put a photo of me and DP as my profile pic I don't seem to have had any more friend requests.

I get at least three such requests every week and have done since the day I joined Facebook 10 years ago.
