Reposted from Preteens due to lack of traction.
I'm a teacher. We finished up for summer on Friday and I let the students draw on the whiteboard. Two ten year old students kept drawing this symbol, can someone explain the meaning?

There wasn't lack of traction, you were told it was Therian, weren't you?

redheadnamedabigale · 23/07/2024 15:27

Nobody explained what a Therian was, other than something to do with animals, all the replies were people arguing about who wrote a comment first.

Somehow identifying as an animal? Sounds strange, does anyone have kids that are "Therians"? Should I inform parents?

Why didn't you ask the kids what it was at the time?

redheadnamedabigale · 23/07/2024 15:29

I didn't notice it until they'd left.

Needmorelego · 23/07/2024 15:33

I answered on your other thread but if it does mean 'Therian' could it be that the children have been reading books like the Animorphs ones?
Are you worried it's some kind of sexual thing?

PenelopeHofstadter · 23/07/2024 15:35

'Lack of traction'🙄

Why not just say 'lack of views/replies'?

It's not a vocabulary exam

Beth216 · 23/07/2024 15:36

A person who identifies as an animal. Quite ironic really since humans are animals. But classification doesn't seem to be a strong point in the general population.

thursdaymurderclub · 23/07/2024 15:37

at least is wasn't a penis and balls

Does it matter what word I use? They mean the same thing.

Looks remarkably like the Deathly Hallows symbol to me.

I think my 17 year old is, looking at the state of his bedroom and the crap he eats.

Needmorelego · 23/07/2024 15:56

Really it's one of a few things....
Child who drew it has no clue what it means and just likes the pattern.
Child who drew it has read about "furries" so thinks this is funny to draw.
Child had read books/seen videos/played computer games like the Animorphs series and it's from that.
Child is being exposed to a sexual kink and it's inappropriate that they know this symbol.
Unless you think it's the last one - I would forget about it.

MidLifeWoman · 23/07/2024 15:57

It does look like the Therian symbol. Log it if you know who drew it, but I wouldn’t take any further action for now.

TinkerTiger · 23/07/2024 15:57

The Deathly Hallows.

No it's not, but it's similar

thursdaymurderclub · 23/07/2024 16:00

as a teacher do you know what i think you should do... put in a safeguarding referral for both the kids, contact the parents and contact the police because both these children are clearly reaching out for some reason and it must be investigated immediately...

or... you gave wipe board pens to pre-teens and expected them to drawer flowers, hearts and dogs.. clean the board and move on

It's the Theta-Delta symbol (as others have said - therian). Assuming you know how to google? 👌🏻

FooFighter99 · 23/07/2024 16:56

My DD12 is a Furry/Therian - there's nothing sexual or perverted about it at all. She likes to wear a tail, paws and ears and she likes to do quadrobics

Nothing to report as it's nothing untoward

Don't worry, just rub it out. What's your concern?Find something better for them to do next end of term.

what is the matter with the word traction? It means the same thing and is a commonplace word.

This is a strange thing to post. I know we live in a world of snowflakes and people get offended at the slightest thing but Polysyllabic Vocabulary Police is a new one on me.
