Give me hope - three types of antibiotics and still have UTI symptoms

Hi all

Hoping someone can share some experiences and make me feel a bit more hopeful. I've had a UTI off and on for more than 3 weeks now and have had trimethoprim, pivmecillinam and now cephalexin for 6 days and still feeling symptomatic. Feel like I need the loo all the time and general abdominal discomfort.

Seeing the doctor tomorrow. I imagine they'll do another dip test and plate but they always come back negative despite me having typical UTI symptoms.

Has anyone been in this situation and got better? If so, what did it take?

Thanks in advance. Xxx

I had exactly this a few weeks ago and in the end I massively upped my water intake and drank lots of cranberry juice and that sorted it out! X

Thanks@Mrsttcno1 . I've been a bit wary about drinking loads as this might flush the antibiotics out giving them no chance to work. Were you taking antibiotics at the time?

I’d had 2 sets of antibiotics which made no difference whatsoever to my symptoms so after finishing the 2nd course no better off I upped my water intake, drank lots of cranberry juice and also actually started wearing loose pants/underwear incase it was irritated and within 2/3 days I was completely back to normal. If your dips are coming back negative for UTI anyway it may be simply dehydration causing the symptoms so upping water intake isn’t a bad idea x

Just giving this a hopefull bump as I've been on three different types of antibiotics and no improvement. I'm starting to lose the will to live. I'm also wondering whether my symptoms could be irritation of the bladder caused by all the antibiotics. For example the one I'm on at the moment pivmecillinam says a side effect can be burns to your oesophagus and stomach if you don't take it with lots of water and food. If this is the case what could it be doing to my poor old bladder? Any thoughts? Xxx

Dmannose gets recommended on here all the time for urine tract infections. Haven't tried it myself but give it a google and see if it might be something you would be interested in trying.

Has your urine actually tested positive for a UTI? If not you might want to look into interstitial cystitis. It's all the symptoms with no actual infection.
