Out of date pain relief - does it still work?

I've had a major flare up of an old injury. I still have some co codamol prescribed by the GP from when it first happened around 4 years ago.

If I take some, are they likely to work? Or poison me 😲. I can't get a GP appointment for 2 weeks and am in quite a bit of pain.

Yes but it degrades slightly so unlikely to be as potent as it was

Thank you. I took some OTC ones this morning but they didn't touch the pain. I'll try the out of date ones next dose.
