I love these things. This one of possibly my most favourite ever.

I can sometimes 'do' them and had a book of them when a teenager. This one is upsetting me as I can't see what it is!

ClickClack300 · 23/07/2024 01:22

I could never do those (see them) and it appears I still can’t… are you supposed to just stare at it in the middle?

Hermittrismegistus · 23/07/2024 01:24

That's a nice one,

I've loved magic eye pics ever since I was a child. I can unfocuse my eyes at will thanks to them.

AdditionalCharacter · 23/07/2024 01:24

I love magic eye pictures. I prefer the ones that make an image item, rather than ones that just become 3D like your pic.

I can see them straight away, it's my mediocre talent.

During the 90s craze for Magic Eye pictures, I never managed to see a single one and not for want of trying! Years later, I read a tip that helped me to see several.

1). Draw two dots above the picture, about 1cm apart.
2). Stare at the dots until it looks as though there’s three of them.

It’s a bit difficult to do this on a screen, I admit …

I loved these back in the 90s! Looking at your pic at first I thought I could no longer do it (it took me months to learn how to see them back when they were really popular). I kind of cross my eyes then relax my eyes and they ‘pop’. Love it.

Garlickest · 23/07/2024 02:47

I lack this ability SO much that I can hardly ever see the foetus on ultrasound scans. Couldn't even see my own, I just made the right noises and showed it off like I knew what it was 😂

I can unfocus at will, but it still doesn't help! What's the second pic supposed to reveal?

Eminybob · 23/07/2024 03:21

Turns out I can't see them when not wearing my glasses/contacts. Placemarking for the morning as I live a magic eye.

RamblingFar · 23/07/2024 03:51

I've had to take off my glasses and switch to my phone to see them. Can't see them on my laptop. Can make both put on my phone though.

I have to stick my nose to the middle of the picture, then slowly move my phone away, whilst keeping my eyes unfocused. Eventually the picture just appears.

A common Mumsnet abbreviation.

JulySheWillFlyAndGiveNoWarningToHerFlight · 23/07/2024 03:56

Isn’t it usually 4 or 5 letters, rather than 3? Or are there more than 3 and I can’t see them?

Seeing magic eye pictures easily is the one advantage to me of being short sighted, I think.

5 letters for the second picture.

AutumnCrow · 23/07/2024 04:20

Oh my word, I can see both of them! Crikey. A new skill to enjoy in my twilight years Smile

beccahamlet · 23/07/2024 04:21

@JulySheWillFlyAndGiveNoWarningToHerFlight you have to click on the picture to see the 5 letters

RausageSoul · 23/07/2024 04:23

How did you find the Mumsnet one?? Can you make them???

Sonolanona · 23/07/2024 07:34

I can see them really easily...I just take off my glasses and let my eyes unfocus; pretty much the only perk of being very shortsighted!

I made it. Just search 'stereogram maker' in Google.

RedDiamond · 23/07/2024 09:38

@Hermittrismegistus I have never heard of magic eye but it appears I can see the 3d bit and yours has given me such a laugh this morning!!

Did this and I have just managed to see these pictures for the first time ever! Have tried several times before and thought something was wrong with my eyes.

rainbowstardrops · 23/07/2024 10:04

I can usually do these but I can't get the second one. I can kind of see letters but not what it says. Any clues?!

SeeSeeRider · 23/07/2024 10:28

I can never see these. Born premature with ROP, monocular vision. I can thread a needle first time, am a really good shot with a rifle or crossbow (school had these as sports), but anything 3D is a closed book to me.

LTB?

seven201 · 23/07/2024 10:37

I used to be able to see them but can't do either of these Hmm. Can someone put me out of my misery and tell me what they are?
