Campsite in the Netherlands?

badger2005 · 22/07/2024 18:49

I have googled, really really I have! But I can't find what I am looking for so I'm turning to mumsnet knowledge for help... maybe someone has stayed on the perfect campsite and will tell me about it...

The 'children' are old-ish teenagers (basically young adults). The perfect campsite would have nature around it and large private-ish pitches, but also fun things not far away (e.g. being able to paddleboard or something from the campsite would be amazing). Obviously we're not after kids clubs or playgrounds (unless big adventurous ones to use in the evenings?). We'll be bringing our own (big) tent and mostly cooking ourselves (being allowed to use our portable bbq would be good), but a cafe/bar on site for eating out sometimes would be great.
We'd love a heated outdoor pool. A big slide would not go amiss but not at all necessary. And probably the main thing is to have a pool where we will not be either annoying adults too much by messing around a bit, nor getting in the way of toddlers. Not sure if that is all possible!
We'll be bringing our bikes too so being able to cycle from the site easily would also be cool, but I understand that everything in the Netherlands is v cyclable anyway (I haven't been before).

If you can help I'd be v V grateful!

Duinrell

Rosesanddaffodilsandtulips · 22/07/2024 19:13

Duinrell is great; haven't camped in a tent there but in a lodge. So much to do in the park and nearby

CountingToThree · 22/07/2024 19:13

Duinrell

alpinia · 22/07/2024 19:16

Beekse Bergen Safari Park (one of the best in Europe) has accommodation including camping at their lake resort. No idea how private the pitches are though. Lots to do in the resort and the surrounding area (Efteling is 15/20 minute drive too). Tilburg centre is easy cycling distance.

@CountingToThree @Rosesanddaffodilsandtulips @bruffin 🍺🍺🍺

Thank you so much! I have heard talk of this Duinrell, though hadn't realised you could camp there. I am hesitating because of DH. He likes his campsites a bit more back-to-nature. Sorry I should have put this in my op. He would probably prefer a campsite that is just in the woods, not too many people etc.
But I am trying to find a balance between that and also some onsite fun activities. So a pool (I guess ideally outdoor, heated) and something like watersports nearby etc, and a snack bar restaurant is all good, but a full on theme park with lots of people I don't think would work.
But maybe with Duinrell the camping is a bit removed from the action? Sorry for being so particular...

@alpinia thank you! 🍺I am checking it out... trying to imagine how it would feel to be so close to lions while in a tent...!
I have to go and finish cooking tea - will be back to research all options!

Have a look at the RCN camps, we stayed at one that was near lake with paddle boarding though no heated outdoor pool.

bruffin · 22/07/2024 19:27

Duinrell is on the edge of a forest that with walks down to the sand dunes and the beach, but the site itself would be busy.

Cherubs4 · 22/07/2024 19:31

@badger2005 have been a few times with family as they have a house there on the beach. It's popular with Dutch and German tourists. It's got a nice atmosphere and is pretty peaceful yet still has enough to do to keep you busy.

DysmalRadius · 22/07/2024 19:33

Duinrell? Theme park, water park, beach, not far from the Hague or Amsterdam.

Cherubs4 · 22/07/2024 19:34

Otherwise a very very trendy camping is camping Bakkum - very popular with families from Amsterdam/Haarlem.

Or

Het wylde pad https://www.hetwyldepad.nl/ but that is very Dutch and I'm not sure how many British people you could expect to find there

Camping Bakkum

Camping Bakkum is gelegen in Castricum - Noord Holland. Een echte familiecamping waar je de mooiste momenten echt samen beleeft. Op slechts 950m van het strand.

Love Duinrell, my lot were 15,12 and 9 when we were last there.
Totally different but also twee bruggen:

Duinrell is great but the pitches can feel cramped.
Also worth looking at Camping Port Zelande https://www.centerparcs.eu/in-en/camping-port-zelande_ms

it’s a campsite at Center Parcs so pools and all CP facilities to use but also next door to the beach, a big lake with boat rental and https://www.brouwersdam.nl/nl/
a big water sports lake. Plenty to do there.

We really liked TerSpelgelt with dc 12 and 15 last summer. Miles of cycling in woods over the road, swimming lakes on site. Swimming pool (indoors) on site. Lots of stuff for little kids, but bars, restaurants on site too. 10 mins bike ride to Eersel, small town, where there is also a bus to Eindhoven.

Chunkychipsohyeah · 22/07/2024 21:20

Here’s another option. We stayed here in 2022. There’s a lake for swimming/ paddle boarding etc and pool with slides. Plus cafe and restaurant. You can cycle to a pretty nearby fortified town that I’ve forgotten the name of and also into the town of Terneuzen which is on the North Sea and has all essentials. There are great cycle paths right from the campsite.

Appreciate you said Netherlands, we camped there until we found this in Belgium - might be full up this summer but worth thinking about for next year - it really isn't far - river for messing in, canoeing etc, Luxembourg not too far away, sedan fort in France close. You can do three countries in one day for fun

@Ohnoitsfinallyhappened That's beautiful. Very tempted... maybe will do this in another year. I have already got my mind into the netherlands mind-set (and bought a guide book)...

blackteaplease · 24/07/2024 19:17

We stayed here last year. I highly recommend it. Its a massive site but subdivided so it feels like a series of smaller fields. Lake on site for swimming and paddleboarding, cycling from the campsite, red squirrels running round the woodland.

@Chunkychipsohyeah looks like lots of fun! My worry on this one is that there is maybe a bit too much fun and maybe a bit more for younger kids? Sorry to be so picky... really appreciate the idea... will keep mulling it over...
