My brain is now deep into 'George is a weird word when you keep re-reading it'. Why don't we pronounce it Gee-o-or-gee? It's 'gorge' with an extra 'e' ... 😁

Because both 'e's serve the same purpose... To make the hard G into a soft J sound. Neither e has it's own sound in this word, they just change the sound of the G.... We could just spell it Jorj but that looks even weirder 😂
