Getting a handbag strap repaired

I have a handbag where the strap has broken. I have taken it to 2 cobblers and they both say they can only repair the bag if I get matching leather. It can't just be stitched back on as the moorings are completely severed.
I am on a bit of a budget. Has anyone found a cheap handbag repair service they can recommend?

My auntie bought a bag from a charity shop just for the strap so her existing bag could be repaired. Realised that actually the new bag was much better all round so swapped over to it.

Look for a cobbler who repairs riding tackle and equipment as they will probably have many more pieces of leather so may be able to match it for you

I second the charity shop idea. You will probably be able to get a great bag nearly new in the charity shop for a similar price that you would pay for a cobbler to repair your old one.

Just in case anyone is interested in an update, I couldn't find a bag of the same colour in the charity shop. However, I found a tack repairer who did a fabulous repair on the handbag for just a few pounds. So happy 😊
