What do you have for breakfast (Uk\Us)

isitfridaay · 21/07/2024 22:09

I have one slice of toast or a bowl of cereal (cornflakes shreddies porridge in winter)

About 5 times a year crumpets or. Croissant / cinnamon bun.

Do people have cooked breakfast everyday?

Inspired by watching re run of ER (the whole thing from pilot to end, currently s6 ep 22) A few innocent lines of reference to breakfasts which I have read too much into )

Homemade gluten free, sugar free muesli with nuts, seeds, and fruit. Delicious. Eat it every day.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 21/07/2024 23:46

UK. Cup of tea but don't eat breakfast.

Coughsweet · 21/07/2024 23:46

Usually coffee but try to have nothing in an attempt to allow my system not to have to deal with processing food for 16 hours or so. Usually get bored and fail though.

Lately it's been croissant with Lindt choc hazelnut or dark choc spread (better that Nutella) and sliced strawberries or banana and a cold milk latte.
Sometimes it's a plain bagel with almond or peanut butter and jam (strawberry, raspberry, right now it's apricot). Pancakes on weekends with banana, berries and real maple syrup when I'm up for cooking. 😋

These people who don’t eat breakfast - how early do you wake up? Can’t imagine anyone getting up with kids at 6am then having nothing to eat until lunch at 12:30, that’s over six hours! Is this real?

6 hours later is about the average time I feel hungry after waking up, or between meals.

I don't think I'm particularly unusual in that?

I can't believe you're asking if it's 'real'?

I've never even thought of it as strange. I'm in my mid fifties and I've been like that since I can remember really.

DataColour · 21/07/2024 23:52

Porridge every day. With different flavours. Mostly either cinnamon, or rose water or cocoa powder. With a few raisins. I'm too active to go without breakfast, often I've done nearly 10k steps before breakfast at 9am which I eat whilst checking my emails at work.

I just don't feel hungry first thing. I feel a bit peckish around 11am so have a coffee then lunch at 12.30ish.

Always been the same.

pizzaHeart · 22/07/2024 00:00

UK. Porridge with fruits or berries. Tea with a piece of dark chocolate.
sometimes overnight oats or toast with cheese or croissant but mostly porridge.
Cooked breakfast only if somewhere.

Allnewtometoo · 22/07/2024 00:01

UK .

Yogurt (greek, or Yeo Valley strawberry) with fruit (strawbs, banana, rasps, blueberries, kiwi....)

Porridge with blueberries and cinnamon.

Shake with frozen fruit.

Occasionally, pancake, croissant, or toast.

DilkushaKitchen · 22/07/2024 00:03

I'm in the UK.

During the week I cycle between granola, raspberry yoghurt and raspberries; seeded wholemeal toast with peanut butter and banana; toast with butter and marmite and then some plain yoghurt, fruit and nuts.

At the weekend it might be scrambled egg or smashed avocado on toast or something a bit more adventurous. Yesterday I had toast, hummus, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, black olives and olive oil for a change.

Whatever day of the week it is, it needs to start with a cup of tea.

LaWench · 22/07/2024 00:03

I have a freshly brewed whole milk latte in the morning and I have my breakfast at lunchtime. Usually a poached egg and bacon on a homemade wholemeal roll. I love savoury breakfast foods but can't face food first thing unless I had very little for dinner the night before.

FangsForTheMemory · 22/07/2024 00:05

Trying to eat healthily atm so today porridge and a tsp honey. Sometimes ham or mushroom omelette. For preference, a croissant or a whole rack of toast.

I'm pretty sure that makes it lunch? 😁

BobbyBiscuits · 22/07/2024 00:24

I don't like eating when I first wake up, so I have a tea with milk and 2 sugars. Sometimes a can of full sugar coke (cherry in an ideal world) but that's usually when I'm a bit hungover, haha.

My favourite 'breakfast' is from an old school Italian caff. Sausage, mushrooms, poached egg, and if I'm feeling crazy, chips. With a cappuccino.
Or, occasionally I'll go for a McDonald's sausage and egg muffin. Minus the plastic cheese. And two hash browns. I could easily eat six! Hash browns, not muffins?! But usually I'm not ready to eat that early.

SnowFrogJelly · 22/07/2024 00:55

Porridge with berries

Or

Eggs on toast

IhateHPSDeaneCnt · 22/07/2024 01:36

I tend to have a brunch e.g flatbread, salad, hummus. Ideally, I would go full bonkers with American style pancakes, saturated in salted butter, drenched with Maple Syrup and 'tented' with frazzled bacon; just to ensure Paramedics have enough clues when they try to revive my (but happy) clogged heart.

moleeye · 22/07/2024 02:02

@Mainats could you share your GF muesli please?

DinnaeFashYersel · 22/07/2024 02:19

Porridge, weetabix or scrambled eggs and toast are my usuals.

Full Scottish for an occasional treat

Sunnyside4 · 22/07/2024 03:10

UK

Mainly cereal, Shredders, Fruit and Fibre or All Bran.

Approx once a week yogurt and fruit and toast and fruit.

Lilothblos · 22/07/2024 03:59

Crunchy peanut butter on seeded toast with berries and grapes on the side, washed down with a cup of tea. Same every day but it’s my favourite meal of the day and I always look forward to it!

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 22/07/2024 04:06

I have one of these on rotation most days of the wee - although about 11am for brunch as follow 16/8.
Scrambled egg on rye sourdough
Alpro yogurt, berries and nuts
Porridge and nuts with honey
Bacon bagel
Oat pancakes, Alpro yogurt and fruit

I just don’t feel hungry unless I’ve not slept well.

I’m awake just after 6 and often cycle 10 miles to work too.
If I’m cycling more than 20 miles I will have overnights oats but invariably take it with me.

Surprised at all the carbs and lack of protein being eaten at breakfast on the this thread:

sashh · 22/07/2024 04:17

UK.

I'm type 2 diabetic and 'low carb with protein for breakfast' is my mantra and has my A1C in non diabetic range so breakfast is often Yoghurt or eggs of some sort.

I occasionally have a cooked breakfast delivered from a local cafe.

AppleCream · 22/07/2024 04:34

I often skip breakfast, but if I have it, it will be either porridge and a banana or fruit with natural yoghurt.

Garlickest · 22/07/2024 04:51

I've just started having a meal replacement shake in the mornings. I want a high-protein breakfast but am generally too fuzzy-headed & shambolic to cook. The nutrient content in this stuff is fantastic but the flavour and texture are revolting! Don't know how long I'll keep it up.
