What do you have for breakfast (Uk\Us)

isitfridaay · 21/07/2024 22:09

I have one slice of toast or a bowl of cereal (cornflakes shreddies porridge in winter)

About 5 times a year crumpets or. Croissant / cinnamon bun.

Do people have cooked breakfast everyday?

Inspired by watching re run of ER (the whole thing from pilot to end, currently s6 ep 22) A few innocent lines of reference to breakfasts which I have read too much into )

These people who don’t eat breakfast - how early do you wake up? Can’t imagine anyone getting up with kids at 6am then having nothing to eat until lunch at 12:30, that’s over six hours! Is this real?

dontforgetme · 21/07/2024 22:34

Uk here
I don't usually have breakfast in the week but if I do it's toast or cereal. Weekends will be scrambled eggs, bacon and a bagel or omelette with absolutely anything from the fridge that I can throw in.

I'm currently on holiday and there is a lot of Americans here, I notice them having waffles a lot!

halfpasteleven · 21/07/2024 22:34

I try to start with a glass of water, followed by green tea with lemon. Then I'll have ready break- usually about an hour after I wake up.

I haven't eaten breakfast since primary school.

I just don't wake up hungry, so wait till 12 for lunch.

StripedPiggy · 21/07/2024 22:36

In winter, usually porridge.

The rest of the year, usually cereal or fresh fruit with Greek yogurt.

Washed down with a large mug of very strong Yorkshire tea, obv.

I'm (mostly) doing intermittent fasting atm to try and lose weight. I don't eat between 8pm and 12 noon the next day. I get up at 6:40. I find it really easy as long as I drink plenty (water and black tea). I'm actually less hungry during the morning than if I have a carby breakfast. Toast or cereal just set off my appetite and give me an energy crash by about 10 a.m.!

halava · 21/07/2024 22:40

I have porridge all year round, unless it's on holidays or breaks away or it's tropical heat here (rare), then I have Weetabix at home, and eggs of some sort when away.

I just love porridge though, I think I'm addicted. I have a formula. Two tbsp oats, two tbsp mixed chia and flax seeds (milled), 4 tbsp wheat bran, and two tbsp vanilla protein powder, no sugar or honey or anything. I make it on water. 3m20s in an 800w micro. Add a little soya milk to cool it down and I savour every last spoonful. How sad am I?

BTW I have diverticulosis so the high fibre is good for me!

Eggs and cheese most days in the form of omelette/ dippy eggs, // sandwich/roll/wraps or scrambled in toast etc. occasionally I'll bash out a shakshuka..

Most weekends on one day we have thick pancakes with syrup or sweet spreads, or bacon and maple, or berries and yoghurt.

Occasionally have porridge with peanut butter and mayo some chocolate chips in, Or a breakfast muffin with sausage patty, cheese, egg etc. if i fancy it..

Might sometimes have marmite on toast or a pastry like a croissant or pain au chocolat
.

Edited

Peanut butter and mayo in porridge!

I have dinner at 6pm and never really feel hungry after that.

Wake up at 7am.

Lunch at 12pm.

EveryKneeShallBow · 21/07/2024 22:48

UK. Wake around 6.45. Massive mug of strong Yorkshire tea, do the NYT puzzles, then get up properly, shower and muck about a bit, drink more tea, and then have a sandwich about 11.30 and dinner about 6.00 pm.

AutumnBride · 21/07/2024 22:48

@ilovepixie I think mayo was supposed to be maybe, I hope so anyway

828Pax · 21/07/2024 22:51

UK. Usually just a black coffee or green tea when I get up and then when I get back
from a dog walk I have a big bowl of porridge...and sometimes I put a spoonful of Nutella in. It's my absolute favourite thing to eat!

mondaytosunday · 21/07/2024 22:51

Growing up it was cereal or nothing. Maybe oatmeal in the winter.
Now I eat brunch instead of breakfast as I eat two meals a day. I wfh so it is cooked. I never ate breakfast when I worked in an office.
So it's usually one slice seeded bread, toasted, 50gr smoked salmon, fried egg, handful of cherry tomatoes and either cottage cheese or avocado.
Grew up in US but now live in UK.

AutumnBride · 21/07/2024 22:52

I usually have Skyr yogurt with fruit and honey for breakfast.

At the weekend I might have wholemeal toast with eggs, but during the week thats more likely to be my lunch on a WFH day.

Username197 · 21/07/2024 22:53

Boiled eggs with ham or scrambled egg with baked beans (UK)

I find I need a high protein breakfast or I struggle to make it to lunch 🙈

CocoapuffPuff · 21/07/2024 22:53

Sourdough or wholemeal toast with cheese or poached egg.
Happy to have some fruit too. Most commonly a pear.

Apfelkuchen · 21/07/2024 22:53

Granola, yogurt and fruit most mornings, with 2 coffees.

I’m not a fan of cooked breakfasts.

greengreyblue · 21/07/2024 22:55

I’m doing 18:6 at the moment so no breakfast just a glass of water the tea/ coffee. I’m up at 6.30 and eat lunch at work after 12. When I wasn’t doing thiis I’d have a boiled egg and wholemeal toast or half an avocado on toast. Sometimes porridge with berries.

jameras · 21/07/2024 22:57

Porridge with chopped prunes most days, unless I have an earlier start then I have Weetabix as it's quicker. Cooked breakfast only at hotels, eating out for brunch or occasionally home cooked on holiday. I get irritable if I don't have breakfast.

LesFlamandes · 21/07/2024 22:57

UK based. I just have coffee most mornings. If I have breakfast, it’s Greek yoghurt with nuts and toasted oats, blueberries, or scrambled egg on sourdough.

When I’m visiting my family in France, it’s croissants once a week. Otherwise, cheese and an apple of we are going walking.

When we lived in the States (Boston), we just had coffee, fruit and maybe toasted bread (luckily we lived near an amazing artisanal baker, commercial American bread is horrible) not loved taking the kids for waffles, French toast or pancakes at the weekend.

spikeandbuffy · 21/07/2024 22:58

Work days
Porridge with a scoop of chocolate brownie protein powder and banana/berries

Scrambled eggs on toast
Bagel with fried egg and sausage patty

namechanged221 · 21/07/2024 22:59

Greek yoghurt with fruit
Or

Rice
Fish
Miso soup

namechanged221 · 21/07/2024 23:00

I have a rice cooker with timer so my rice is ready for first thing in the morning.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/07/2024 23:03

UK. On work days I have either porridge with a spoonful of peanut butter, or Greek yoghurt with granola depending on the time of year. I often have Belvita breakfast biscuits or a cereal bar about 11 at work too.

At weekends we tend to have a bacon or sausage sandwich about midday, but nothing beforehand.

NotSoHotMess24 · 21/07/2024 23:04

If I'm doing low carb, it's either skipped or a cheese omelette.

If I've given up on life or ever losing weight, it tends to be peanut butter on brown toast, and fruit, as this is what I usually make for the children.
