Good man, late but sensible decision.

I was worried that with Biden, there would be a very easy win for Trump.

noblegiraffe · 21/07/2024 18:59

Without Biden there's probably also an easy win for Trump. He was polling better than the other options.

I'm surprised the only source is Twitter/X.

I can't find the story anywhere else on the web?

TwattyMcFuckFace · 21/07/2024 19:03

Ahh I see it now breaking on SKY news.

lemonyellows · 21/07/2024 19:03

It's on all news tv

noblegiraffe · 21/07/2024 19:03

I guess that's because he announced it on twitter?

it may save Senators and Representatives even if the Presidency is lost. A shame it wasn’t after last year or immediately after the debate. His legacy would be more about the achievements especially beating Trump.

Topseyt123 · 21/07/2024 19:06

Just read it on the BBC.

Inevitable, I think. I don't think he could have managed another four years in office. His recent decline has just been too pronounced.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/07/2024 19:07

Thank goodness. It would be gifting it to Trump if Biden didn't step down now.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/07/2024 19:07

Didn't think he had it in him but good for him putting country first

If he was the type to put his country first, he would've done it long ago.

I feel a bit sorry for him, as does my 19 year old son. I feel he's been bullied out a bit but I did think him having Covid gave him a respectable out.

Callalllaaammma · 21/07/2024 19:14

He intends to fulfill the remainder of his term, maybe that was the dealbreaker.
It will be hard for a new candidate during the presidential race with him still bumbling around in the background.

It's impossible not to feel some sympathy, and probably he did feel rather bullied which is a real shame.

I think it was a sad inevitability though, as the Democrats were/still are in a real mess. Biden had very little chance of defeating Trump. He was incoherent, stuttering, unable to hold his own in the TV debates and increasingly prone to massive gaffes, such as calling Zelenskyy President Putin and Kamala Harris Vice President Trump.

It has become increasingly clear that he no longer has what it takes, sadly.
