Where to go in Europe for two nights in August?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Can only get away for two nights, three days with my 13 yr old dd and not the biggest budget. I would love rest and relaxation, she would love a bit of buzzy culture. Was thinking Barcelona but it'll be boiling in August but then it will be in most countries. Need to get something booked soon. Please hit me with your ideas - particularly if tried and tested by you 😊

Avoid Paris is my advice!!

Lisbon is great or Palma is easy to get to and has beach options if it is too hot for day time exploring. I love Seville but it will be scorching in August-it's brilliant for autumn/winter though.

St Tropez. Buzzy but relaxed, shopping, beaches with waiter service and nice food.

Another one for Lisbon. Plenty of culture but also easy to get around. On the river so a bit cooler than some inland cities. There's lots of excellent food, shopping and nightlife if you want it.

If you are within easy reach of Eurostar @Dogtales79, take the train to Antwerp.

A beautiful city with wonderful architecture, a vibrant cafe culture, lots of different types of restaurants, good shopping including markets. It has history and art galore, or you could take a boat trip on the River Scheldt, buy some chocolate, taste waffles....

With such a limited tine, I'd be using flight timings to help narrow the field.
Where does your local airport fly to that will get you there before lunch and leave early evening?

If your flight out is afternoon on day 1 and back on the morning of day 3 then you only have 1 day. There's a huge difference in what you can do with the time.

If you're near London then eurostar to Belgium (or NL) - Antwerp, Ghent etc.

Yes. Due me when I have limited time, amsterdam is close and really chill, great culture too. Plus buzzy. Or Berlin

Wow! So many great choices, wishing I had multiple two night breaks lined up now. Lisbon is currently looking like the front runner and budget friendly too. Would never have thought about Nice for such a short break but the 25 mins from Monte Carlo is so tempting too. I'm in London so no problem on the airport front. Thanks for these great ideas all - much food for thought. Will sleep on it and book tomorrow 🙌

Lisbon is gorgeous, but check also the weather - last year in August, it was up to 40c in August.

What's the hottest you'd consider?

MrsMoastyToasty · 21/07/2024 21:03

The Hague.

embolass · 21/07/2024 21:59

Nice. Short flight and think it’s 20 mins from airport. Lovely, easy to get around, beautiful sea front and train st easy to walk to for trips to Monaco, and other lovely costal places. We were impressed by it

elQuintoConyo · 21/07/2024 22:39

Bilbao - much cooler weather, fab stuff to see, art, architecture, food, beach, cool bridge, shopping. It's a gorgeous place.

I'm taking my teen DD to Vienna in August to go to the Eras Tour and two days sightseeing. The flights have worked out quite cheap from Stansted.
