I have just bought an ipad for my 10 year old as it is required for the start of next school year. However I don't have any apple products myself. I am struggling with how to set it up so that I can limit her ability to buy things on it but it seems the only way to do is through family sharing which requires another apple device owned by the parent! I can't afford to get another apple device, and nor do I want to. Anyone else been in this situation and can explain what to do?

App store. Don’t let child know the password, don’t store it on the iPad. It will ask if you want to store it, just dismiss that.
Ditto Music store.
Amazon, EBay, etc don’t download the apps. Your dc could of course but they’d have to link a bank card to them.
If you have Amazon, EBay, any shopping sites accounts make the passwords complicated and you can even have a free separate mail address for them that you don’t tell dc about.

Any games they want to download you’d have to do. Can’t think of any other solutions.

Thank you! Yes this seems a good plan - it was the app and music stores I was most concerned about. I don't think she'd deliberately go and buy things, she's sensible and I trust her, but you can never be too careful!
