Dd (11) had her ears pierced for the first time. She’s been wanting it for a while and I promised she could have it when school broke up

She was brilliant. Didn’t even whimper

Term hasn't ended here yet. Tuesday.

This is one of the reasons I wouldn't pierce my babies, it's a great rite of passage. I remember feeling so grown up, I was around 9?

I didn’t do it because I don’t like seeing pierced ears on babies. Mine were done when I was a toddler. I don’t wear earrings now! Haven’t done in over a decade.

Dd is getting her ears pierced on Monday with her best friend, she can’t wait!

weebarra · 20/07/2024 19:35

We did it last year! Mine we done in the summer holidays too.

Benjilassi · 20/07/2024 19:41

I overhead a mum and daughter talking to another mum and daughter in town today. One had just had her ears pierced. It was sweet.
And two young girls were getting strands of coloured hair put in their own hair at the salon. They were so excited.

It’s all about getting those life experiences in isn’t it

My DD14 had hers done yesterday. It was so quick and painless. It looks like she had them done years ago. I was expecting blood and ear infections.

PoetryPlease · 20/07/2024 20:39

Mine would like hers done but they don't allow earrings at all at her school and I don't think the holidays are long enough to let them heal up enough to have them out all day. I think she's now going to have to wait until after her GCSEs!

Definitely!! I remember my brother really wanting his ear pierced and mum waiting until school finished. He was so excited! Such a lovely moment for them.

2 of DD's friends are going together next Saturday. She doesn't know yet but to me they're still too young (6, end of year 1) and if she hears about it I'll be having conversation that will be her telling me I'm the worst mummy ever I suspect.

I've told her already she can get them done the summer between primary and secondary.

I'm not in UK, but I'm a pre school teacher and off for 8 weeks so I got my helix done on the first day off. I'm 47.

DanaBarrett · 20/07/2024 20:53

Took DD13 to get hers done yesterday and got a cheeky nose piercing while we were there 😉 very pleased with myself. Taking DD11 next week as her school allows ear studs.

Ifailed · 20/07/2024 20:56

get yourself pieced as an adult, anything else is child abuse.

fashionqueen0123 · 20/07/2024 20:59

We did it at Easter as I found out the advice is to not go swimming for 12 weeks after. As one of the main reasons for infection! She’s just stopped swimming lessons so was the perfect time. It was an exciting trip out for sure! She got it done with a friend :) I agree a rite of passage. I think I felt worse than she did - seeing the huge needle 🤣

fuhb · 20/07/2024 21:07

We're going on Monday, she's been wanting them done ever since DD1 had them done 2 years ago.

Limedaiquirialwayslime · 20/07/2024 21:15

We’re going on Monday. DD is 10 and going into year 6. I’m getting mine redone too. Haven’t worn earrings for about 15 years so I’m quite excited too!
I also keep threatening to get my belly button redone (took it out when pregnant). DD is not keen on this idea 😂😂

Changingmynameyetagain · 20/07/2024 21:30

DS2 is desperate to have his done, we’re going on holiday next Monday for a week so I’ve said he can have them done when we get home.
He’s 13 and been asking for 4 years!

Minniemouse85 · 20/07/2024 21:31

My dd got hers done yesterday straight after the last day of school. She bathed them herself (under my supervision) last night, this morning and tonight and she’s over the moon!

greengreyblue · 20/07/2024 21:33

Not breaking up yet here but I’m having my thirds done when we do…..I’m 53!

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 20/07/2024 21:36

My dd14 had hers done yesterday afternoon as they finished at lunchtime, so we headed ti the tattoo place to get her piercing done. Lots of other kids there. Wasn’t too sure how she’d handle it as she’s a drama llama at the best of times. All good, the staff were amazing.

ricecrispiecakes · 20/07/2024 21:37

I remember getting mine done at the start of the holidays when I was 12, I felt so grown up Grin

ElTheBird · 20/07/2024 22:37

As a teen who is still in school, yes I got them done ! They are adorable I love them so so soooo much but I cannot sleep in them as it hurts🥲

Iwasjustasking · 20/07/2024 23:37

Yep, second piercing in ears done yesterday and decided she wanted her belly button today! She is 14 and the tattoo shop was absolutely full this morning! She is happy!
