Has anyone been to see Peter Kay this year?

Was thinking of buying some tickets to see Peter Kay for a gift for partner. But some people I've spoken to have said was a bit crap and alot of old material was just repeated and it wasn't really funny. Others have said the opposite. I've had a look online and it's mixed.

There's another comedian he like too, so trying to figure out which tickets I should get as it's pretty expensive and don't want to feel I wasted my money.

We went last week. There was a lot of re-hashing of old material, although a couple of bits of new material were there too.

Overall it was good, nothing special just good. Its a shame as we saw him before his absence and he was brilliant. It was like he had been ill, and he was trying to remember his act, or think about what to say in places.

Friends who had been before wouldn't tell us what they thought before we went, and said after that they hadnt enjoyed him as much.

Friends went. They LOVE him. They said it was embarrassingly awful. About a quarter of the arena left in the interval.

I agree with this. It was good but not as good as previous shows

Smidge001 · 21/07/2024 09:23

We went. I absolutely loved him as-was, and had tickets prior to his departure so they got canned. We bought as soon as he came back and I was looking forward to it. But it was really quite 'meh'. So much rehash of old material. Old tv adverts and wrong words to songs. There was the odd bit that made us laugh but maybe having such high expectations was the problem.
I think it was professionally done (I don't recognise a pp's comments about him not remembering what to say) but I left feeling a bit flat. Not his fault of course but he looks so different from before, I found that a bit disconcerting!

We went to a show this tour early on. Seen him live a couple of times before but in smaller venues, probably 20 years ago. We were booked on for the tour that got cancelled so we're keen to go for this.

It felt like a greatest hits show and I definitely wouldn't go and watch him again after this. We left distinctly underwhelmed.

Also, I go to a lot of stand up comedy shows from tiny shows at Edinburgh Fringe to theatre size, but it was the first time I'd seen comedy in an arena, and for me it's not the right place for stand-up. Some of the things that PK does in the show do require it to be in a large venue and I know that lots of comedians that play these massive venues, I will think carefully before going and seeing comedy in an arena again.

We had a drunk group in front of us that would have been thrown out of a smaller comedy venue, and I found it really distracting.

It's hard to say.

I've heard mixed reports but probably slightly more negative than positive.

Who's the other comedian you're considering, maybe posters have seen them & can recommend?

VivaLaSpag · 21/07/2024 10:11

I went a few weeks ago…..it really wasn’t great tbh. Not flat out awful but not great. I laughed a few times but it just felt like the years had not been kind to PK. There was something missing from how I remember him and I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see him touring again.

Tallerandtall · 06/12/2024 11:52

@Driday

Went last night and it was fabulous.

People saying old material etc seem to be the sort of miserable fools that would complain at a take that concert if they played their hits. It seems very strange.

his stand up act is know for various things and that is what you got but updated etc.

Everything was updated it was extremely funny and a great night out.

My friend and I laughed our heads off.

the worse bit of course is the tube back!

Bump!

There is another thread here if you are still debating many months on! 😂https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/chat/5045106-peter-kay-spoilers

mixed reviews but I am on the side of it was ‘Meh’! Not half as good as the previous shows of his I’ve been to! Seems to have lost his spark. I agree about the rehashing of old material (and as a bigTT fan as a pp mentioned, I don’t think it’s the same thing as singing along to greatest hits at a concert!)! 😜

OP if you ended up buying tickets have you been yet?

Peter Kay (spoilers) | Mumsnet

Anyone seen his new stand up tour? Went last night, was so excited and near the front. I left feeling a bit disappointed. To me it felt like it never...

ChristmasLightsLover · 12/01/2025 11:48

We went in November. Saw him in Manchester. Was very much a greatest hits show. I wouldn't pay to see him again unless I knew it was fresh material.

I can also relate to the comments from other posters about feeling awkward around how different he looks. But that's my issue, not his!

I'd spend money on John Bishop instead. He was great. Or Sarah Millican. She's good live too. Or even Michael McIntyre. He was surprisingly good live.

User135644 · 12/01/2025 11:49

He's been doing the same act since the 90s

Is he still shouting "garlic bread"?

Driday · 12/01/2025 13:49

Didn't realise this thread was still going. After this thread and having spoken to ppl at work, I decided against it.

I've booked some tickets for a comedian who is pretty new which I stumbled across on Instagram and another unknown one.

Can I ask where you saw Peter Kay….. was it Sheffield?

A PP mentioned John Bishop. I've seen him live and he was crap, nothing funny about him at all.

The whole show was about "how he couldn't believe his luck about being a comedian".

Me neither mate.

Have seen McIntyre live at the O2, was funny but place was too big.

Saw him again at Plymouth Pavilions and he was really good.

Blue278 · 28/01/2025 00:40

Was about to start furiously typing and get you to save your money but saw you’d updated!
Was terrible.
But some people near us were in stitches. Breathless with laughter. 🫤
