What’s Kefalonia like for family holiday with teens?

We’ve not been abroad since pre-pandemic days but next summer will be in a position for a European holiday. DH and I have never been to Kefalonia but always fancied it. We will be taking the DCs who will be 14 and 12 with us. Any recommendations on locations to look at (or alternatives which might be better?)

We want:

a villa, not hotel (DH likes his own space) with a pool.

Close to a beach

Local restaurants (serving local food, not Brits Abroad kind of stuff)

Options for sight-seeing such as ruins or museums etc.

Nice weather with sun!

Thank you 🤩

Kefalonia is beautiful, but it's been many years since I've been, so I don't have any specific recommendations.

Kefalonia isn't really a Brits Abroad English food fest type of place, so wherever you choose will have local restaurants/ tavernas with Greek food.

Your list looks like you just need to take it to a travel agent or put the correct options into a holiday search engine.

The caves is a definite must, trip wise.

We went two years ago with an older teen and an adult DC
had a good time! We are very much into exploring, local food and culture.

its great to have a car, so you can get around different areas. We drove to the west peninsula one day and visited the beaches at the south there - quite Mexico almost- and got the car ferry home which was fun.

there’s not loads to do museum/culture wise. We really enjoyed a couple of boat trips though, one to Ithaca was really good with lovely swim spots on the way.

fiscardo is great, busy but not crowded and lots of local restaurants along the harbour.

places that were a bit ‘Brit abroad’ were the bit south of argostoli, and sami, so maybe look elsewhere on the island.

it was a slightly different holiday for us - quite a lot of time in sunloungers on a hot beach which is not normally how we holiday. We did enjoy it but I’m not sure I’d do it again.
