School leaver - how do you deal with it?!

Currently in tears over my child finishing pre school, and starting school in Sept! The staff have been absolutely wonderful and we really are going to miss them all so much! I appreciate this is a phase of life and growing up but I can’t cope with all the emotions and upset every year! My baby is growing up! How do you all do it? 😭

School leaver?!

Scottishgirl85 · 19/07/2024 21:49

Honestly I find it really tough. I have a 9, 6 and 1 year old, and this last week of term is too emotional every single year. I think it gets worse as they get older too, as you start to mentally count the years you have left with your children before they've grown up. I realise I'm unhinged and need to get a grip, but I find it very, very hard. Sorry no help really, just brace yourself!

I felt very emotional when they left senior school . I could not believe how fast it went .

It's exciting. For her and me. Yes sad to leave such wonderful staff at nursery but she's ready for school and all the experiences that will bring. Not sure I'll be in tears to be honest.

JennyfromtheBlok · 19/07/2024 21:54

I think you mean school starter?

PrincessOfPreschool · 19/07/2024 22:13

I thought this was about finishing A levels! My DS1 (18) had his graduation Assembly last week. He was ecstatic!

Bubnbutton · 19/07/2024 22:14

Sorry, yes PRE school leaver! Breaks by heart but so, so proud of how far they’ve come in the last year! 😩

I cried for hours when ds left nursery. It's the end of an era. You'll adjust quickly though, there's so much to enjoy about this next phase. Seeing them turn into proper little people that you love more and more each day is such a gift.

Throwwaway · 19/07/2024 22:21

My mum cried the first day my brother went to secondary school I think that’s so cute, you really care about them
just the idea of my son in school uniform waving at me in a corridor makes me want to cry too

Celebrating the end of nursery fees!

DD1 left Early Years today and although DD2 will be there for another 2 years, I still have an overwhelming sense of emotion - she was a tiny dot when she started and hated it! But over the last two years she has flourished and she adores going to school now. We are so, so proud of her, but looking back at the photos of when she started, I feel like the time has just flown 😢

Bubnbutton · 19/07/2024 22:43

@LadyChilli 😭😭 is killing me!

@Throwwaway have the uniform, done the pictures, is so excited! Inside - dreading it! Before I know it, I’ll have an empty nest! 💔 care so, so much! Want the best, but also want to wrap them up and never let them go!

@FhdW 🤣🤣 true! Just the laugh I needed! Thank you x

@merryandbrightdelight snap, still doesn’t make it any easier though! 😭💔 but appreciate it’s just gotta get through it!
