Just warning you - obviously if you are on here then it hasn't hit you hard! But I have just lost google, and my work internet connection

According to the Sun * these supermarkets are affected:

  • Morrisons
  • Waitrose
  • Sainsbury's
  • Co-op
  • Tesco Ireland
  • which is as illiterate as ever - television channels, banks, GPs and supermarkets around the world have been "rocketed" by the issues, as opposed to rocked.
BloodyHellKenAgain · 19/07/2024 11:28

I've just got back from the supermarket. Everything was working as usual. Apparently they'd had a few issues first thing but it has been sorted out now.

Our local Morrisons is fine 🙂

Can Microsoft also do something about all their crap products like teams, outlook, PowerPoint etc?

HowardTJMoon · 19/07/2024 11:39

Towelmode · 19/07/2024 11:10

@HowardTJMoon Most things are human error as I’m sure this is but my question was would they say it was an attack whilst it’s happening? I would think that might cause panic.

Given the choice between saying "We think we've been compromised by a sophisticated attacker" and "We're a bunch of drooling idiots who did this through our own incompetence", the former leads to much better long-term PR than the latter.

KGBismyjam · 19/07/2024 11:42

It's solar flares

Natsku · 19/07/2024 12:11

GiveMeSpanakopita · 19/07/2024 11:25

It seems to be mainly UK, Australia, NZ and Japan

And the US.
Which means its not really global.

halava · 19/07/2024 12:16

Was just thinking, that even if I have a stash of cash (which I do, about £100 just in case!), in the event of a total breakdown of systems, then the bar codes couldn't be scanned and the registers might not open!

Am I overthinking.

The automatic doors in our shop wouldn’t even open, so no you are not overthinking. Hence the advice to have enough food and water at home.

Yeah I would expect to be unable to buy anything from the shops (very small shops might be able to manage by writing everything down rather than scanning barcodes but that's a very slight might), best to prepare so you don't need to buy anything

I am in now way a prepper nor am I a worrier. I have the following just because I have them - probably on offer somewhere at the time! I am sure many others have similar. I don't believe we need an apocalyptic hoarding situation under the bed. But I might regret saying that!

Crackers
Ryvita
Biscuits
Chocolate
Jellies
Sugar
Tea
Coffee
Coffee mate (can use in tea if needed it's not bad, used it during the snow one year!)
Oats
Weetabix
Protein powder,
Chia and flaxseeds
Tinned stuff - beans, fruit, tuna, salmon etc.
Packet cup a soups
Pasta and sauce.

Even if the power went at home, I reckon I won't starve for a few days. Once I have some chocolate I'll be ok anyway.

In an apocalyptic scenario someone would rob you anyway. Goes for cash or food. Few days to a couple of weeks worth is plenty.

Trains and planes affected in Europe.

A week or two is as much as I have anyway!

Trains and planes affected in Europe.

Not all have been affected, and not all parts of Europe either, mine is practically untouched by this.

Treaclewell · 19/07/2024 12:49

I'm really sorry for all of the people affected. But the story led me to discover my own personal outage. Obviously my Virgin fibre is working, but my own personal wifi cloud isn't. I've checked its power supply and the connection to the router, but it has stuck on flashing red light as if starting up since 10, and the computers can't reach it. I'm getting another external hard drive and appealing to the local computer firm to access the data. Old stuff has been backed up, but recent... Oh my goodness!

Not everywhere.

TheChosenTwo · 19/07/2024 12:56

A couple of the systems we use for work are down, it’s a mixture of brilliant (cos, well, no work!) and awful (my last day of work before 2.5 weeks leave and I had a lot of annoying tidying up and finishing off things I still needed to do).
I went to Sainsbury’s about an hour ago, paid contactless no problem.

Lucky you. I won't say where I am but it is utter chaos.

Dodappydah · 19/07/2024 10:51

MAC based products aren't affected, MAC book,.iPhone and iPad all working fine here

Yes that was my point. Thanks to DH's strong recommendation I buy Apple products for my business, despite the fact that I prefer Windows, everything is working perfectly and I have no excuse to go and sit in the garden.

I could have done with a few more 😉😉 in my original post!

Exactlab · 19/07/2024 13:57

Chersfrozenface · 19/07/2024 11:13

And the moral of this story is, do your research on trustworthy sites, preferably specialised ones, not Reddit.

Do you really think it matters that I wrote it on mumsnet? It’s hardly going to be quoted in the dailymail.

gleefulstar · 19/07/2024 14:12

Finally decided to bite the bullet and sand and paint my porch. Went to B&Q for supplies and they're only accepting cash so left with nothing.

So instead, I've just had to sit in the garden all day. How annoying.

😂

The chaos in many places sounds horrific. Just lucky here that most use different software

leeverarch · 19/07/2024 14:19

My boss came up to me not long after I arrived at work this morning and told me this. I was actually logged onto our business bank account at the time, so we didn't seem to have any issues, and the whole system has been working fine so far.

Caspianberg · 19/07/2024 14:20

Mainland Europe here, everything seems fine. I wouldn’t have heard anything wrong if I didn’t look on uk news
