Tumble dryer not drying!

swedishgirl · 18/07/2024 17:37

I have a Bosch washer dryer and typically use the dryer setting straight after the wash programme. However, today I found that my towels were still wet after they'd been in the dryer. I put them on to dry again, but they still came out wet. I have looked the manual and searched online for a solution, but have not found one. Any suggestions on how I can fix this issue before calling a professional?

have you checked the lint or the pipe at the back

PickAChew · 18/07/2024 17:46

If it has been working fine, it could be any number of issues. We had washer dryers for a while and issues included the condenser being completely caked with lint and having to be replaced and the impeller fan being faulty, meaning that not enough hot air was blown through for the dryer to be effective. Ours had a trap at the bottom that had to be drained regularly and cleared of gunk, pencils, paperclips...

swedishgirl · 18/07/2024 17:48

I've checked the pipe, some 'stuff' came out of it. Hoping it that might solve the issue. It's back on now.

Not checked the lint though, do you know how I do this?

Mine did this. Needed a really good clean. The box filter at the bottom and the filer in the door. Luckily it worked again.

Yes, try both lint filters.

Ghost2 · 18/07/2024 17:58

Does it show any error codes?

Justgamboling · 18/07/2024 18:05

When mine did this, it just needed a reset. There was a button on the back inside. It's not a Bosch but I'm wondering if they have the same thing.

Do you know where the filter in the door is? It's back on now, so can't check quite yet.

No error codes at all!

I have never known a washer dryer combi to dry

LuckysDadsHat · 18/07/2024 18:21

You won't have lint filters etc..... on a bosch washer/dryer. You have the one main filter at the bottom (I have the same make).

Have you put it on sensor dry? Try a timed dry and see if that dries it. If it does you have a problem with the sensor. If it's still not drying it will be the thermostat thing for the dryer.

Thank you for your advice! The second time I attempted to dry I did it on the timed dry setting and it was still wet coming out. So guessing it might be a thermostat issue?

That's always been my experience, but this one is (usually!) pretty good.

You know where all the fluff goes sort of in the circle bit. I had neglected mine.

notthatfish · 18/07/2024 19:01

I had this issue. Did you check the drain hole? The bit you're supposed to check for bits of lego, keys etc. I found mine was full of water so had to drain every time. Now i just use a dehumidifier, cheaper.

Washer/dryers do not have this.

Yes most likely the heating element/thermostat has gone. Call a local engineer and they should be able to fix it for you.

FairyLightBan · 18/07/2024 19:12

@swedishgirl which Bosch is it?? I have one, I could help

Allthehorsesintheworld · 18/07/2024 19:12

Does it feel warm or cold when you open the door during the drying cycle? Mine felt cold, the thermostat or heater had gone.

Wildrosebush · 18/07/2024 19:16

inhave a Bosch washer drier and I once called out an engineer for this problem. He pulled the drier out and showed me a switch on the top. Apparently it had tripped an internal fuse because it was in danger of over heating. He flicked the switch again and it worked fine.

also advised me to put on a fluff clean regularly

in the past I have also had to drain the water out of the box filter at the bottom. You need to put pan or some towels underneath to catch the water

This is really helpful, thanks! Could be a similar problem, need to find out more about the switch. I think I'm going to have to call an engineer tomorrow to get it sorted, doesn't look like something I can fix myself.
