Chicken pox

Hi all , my daughter is almost 2. We are due to fly to Turkey on Saturday morning ( today is Thursday) her little friend from the childminders has come down with chicken pox yesterday (Wednesday) he only does 1 day a week and my daughter does Mon-Thurs 3 hours a day . My question is will this reduce the risk of it being passed on. My daughter is fine upto now but obviously majorly anxious now . Wondering if someone /anyone can offer me any advice , reassurance . Just feel like the excitement of the holiday has gone now .

Hopefully they haven’t had too much contact then, but I guess it’s a wait and see one. For what it’s worth, my son avoided 3 rounds of chicken pox when he was at nursery, just caught it on round 4, so it’s not a given that your daughter will catch it this time. Have a good holiday.

They are contagious for 1-2 days before the spots appear and until they scab over so it depends when they last had contact with each other. Also there is a 10-21 day incubation period so you won't know for a while whether she has caught it or not.

So your daughter was with him on Monday? If so, then he was probably contagious then, definitely on Tuesday.

I wonder is it too late to vaccinate her? You could ask a GP. I do know that they can be vaccinated after exposure, but 5 days is probably too late.

The incubation period is 10-21 days, so she probably won’t break out for up to another 2 weeks if she has contracted it

Unfortunately it’s just a game of wait and see.

Thank you . This gives me hope , just made me mega anxious especially because my oldest daughter had them before we were due to go abroad a few years ago . Spent all week panicking my middle girl was going to get them but she came out with them on holiday so I had to stay behind for a few days 🙈
