Washing DFS sofa covers

As the title, has anyone ever washed fabric sofa covers? They say not to but mine are looking a bit grubby and I'm tempted

I've had a velvet sofa from dhs that I regularly chucked in the washing machine and it came up beautifully. I've now got a dfs patterdale and the back seats are buttoned so I won't be able to wash those but when needed I will wash the seat pad covers. I don't think they recommend it though.

Washing the covers might affect fire retardant your sofa is treated with. I would be cautious about that.

Yeah, I do it all the time (light coloured sofa, really clumsy people sitting on it). Just don’t do it on too high a heat.

If you’re not sure, just do one and see how it turns out. It’s the perfect time to do it weather wise.

Nine is 10+ years old, but I machine wash the covers (not marked as matching washable) at least twice a year. This has reminded me to do them again, it is just a pain wrestling them off and on again!

I had cotton covers on DFS sofas and washed them loads of times. Make sure you wash them all together so if there’s a bit of colour loss it should affect them all equally. I had mine 14 years and covers still looked new when I sold them.

Follo with interest as I have a light coloured fabric dfs sofa and am sorely tempted to chuck the covers in the washing machine. Had it two years and despite lots of spot cleaning it's looking worse for wear for sure

We have a white DFS sofa with blue pinstripe, I do wash the covers and need to do them again now. What puts me off is that its really hard to get them on and off nicely

Sunshineafterthehail · 18/07/2024 18:58

Wash on a special care cycle... When it comes to them going back on Google the black bin bag hack....

Wash on your coldest setting though!

Muffinmanfromdrurylane · 18/07/2024 19:22

I wash mine regularly. I just put in a 20 or 30 degree wash and then put them back on the cushions when they are still a little damp as it is easier. I have a corner sofa though so the cushion shape is awkward.

Thanks all, you've convinced me. Wish me luck
