DS is 3 and autistic. He started saying words a few months ago, mainly labelling things, but he’s not yet able to communicate and tell me what he wants, no conversations etc.

I picked him up earlier from nursery and 2 members of staff told me that he was upset earlier on the day and was crying and he said clear as day “I want mummy” I couldn’t believe it and neither could they🥹 I’ve not stopped smiling since 6🤣

I hope this can give any other parents in a similar situation hope🫶🏼

That's a beautiful story OP. I bet you'll be smiling for days. What a clever lad! 😍

Excited101 · 17/07/2024 19:39

Oh that is so lovely!
the 3 words together, the fact he was able to articulate his feels and that he wanted you when he was sad! Just amazing- what a boost and what an insight into the ability that is hopefully there to show more of itself as time goes on! No wonder you’re so happy!

Magicmushroomsauce · 17/07/2024 21:45

What a lovely story. Thank you for sharing. As the mother of an autistic 2.5 year old I understand how massive that must feel. ❤️

the other day my little boy (who whilst not non verbal has very few words) looked me dead in the eyes and unprompted said “I love you” I couldn’t stop crying. Bottle that feeling OP

KatiesMumWoof · 17/07/2024 21:49

@bingandflop1 how lovely!! (Not that he was upset though!)

it's So Exciting on several levels, I think it might take a couple of days to properly sink in!!
